Each new moon, villagers honor spirits and seek guidance, with Topol and his grandfather sharing wonder in the old stories. Visitors respect local tradition—until strangers try to profit by controlling entry and spreading lies that fracture trust. After fencing the cave and reopening it with murals, Malanni resists, only to be pushed out and banned, threatening Toka’s heritage.","The Sacred Cave The Asia Foundation-Let’s Read \nRusiate Duke Lawalevu \nIn the dry lands of Toka, the people passed down their stories through carvings. The most important carvings were found in a sacred cave at the heart of Toka. There, every piece of wood or stone told the legends and tales of the ancestors. \nEach month, on the day of the new moon, the villagers of Toka walked to the cave to pay their respects to the spirits and ancestors. They offered flowers, songs, and whispered prayers to honor those who were no longer with them. \nTopol, a quiet boy from the village, loved to visit the cave with his grandfather. Every carved stroke, every detail, would fill him with wonder. Topol felt as if the stories were apart of him. He couldn’t wait to leave his own carving for someone to find one day.“These walls remember us,” his grandfather would say. \nWord began to spread far and wide about the special carvings found in the sacred cave . People from other lands came to visit the cave . They admired the beautiful carved things and learned about the stories. These visitors respected the local traditions, and the people ofToka welcomed them. \nBut one day, strangers arrived with a different purpose. They wanted to charge money for people to visit the cave . They brought security guards to control who could enter.“This is for the best,” they said.“Toka will be safer this way.” The people of Toka were uncertain. Safety was important, but shouldn’t everyone be able to enjoy the sacred cave? \nTo get their way, the strangers started to spread false stories in the surrounding villages about Toka people.“They go to the cave to pray for your bad luck,” they whispered to Toka’s neighbors. Because of these lies, whenever something bad happened – if crops withered or farm animals got sick – people blamed the village of Toka. Bit by bit, the trust between friends broke down . Soon, Toka was not strong enough to \nstand up to the strangers. \nOne day, Topol saw the strangers building a fence around the cave . They put up signs that said ‘Closed for Renovations’. When the cave reopened, everything had changed. The old carvings were gone! The cave was now covered with bright murals of flags, skyscrapers and faces of powerful leaders. \nMalanni, an elder of Toka, tried to scrape away the new paint on the cave walls. The strangers got mad! They pushed him out roughly and banished him from entering the sacred cave .","cbCaikfo4eTcfoQ5","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikfo4eTcfoQ5","pdf",1672456,2,31,"English","en",105,"# The Cave and the Traditions\n## Monthly Visits and Belonging\n# A Growing Reputation\n## Respect from Outsiders\n# Strangers and Manipulation\n## Lies and Broken Trust\n# The Fence and the Lost Carvings\n## Murals Replace Legends\n# Resistance and Banishment\n## Malanni’s Attempt","[{\"question\":\"What role does the sacred cave play in the lives of Toka villagers?\",\"answer\":\"The sacred cave holds the most important carvings that carry ancestor legends.
