Critical discourse analysis is applied to web-scraped comment threads from one of the most active incel forums, focusing on discussions where social media or online culture is explicitly referenced. Findings show how forum members reflect and internalize these discourses, framing social media as a driver of dating-market inequality and reinforcing extremist collective identity.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/research-report/","Research Ondřej Císař, Ph.D. Analýzaodhaluje způsoby, kterým jsou diskurzy těchto dvou dimenzí členy [Incels.is](Incels.is) komunity reflektovány, přetvářeny a internalizovány. Práce dochází k závěru, že uživatelé fóra vnímají sociální média jako zvyšující nerovnost na tzn. dating market (sexuálním trhu) kvůli důrazutěchto platforem na fyzickou přitažlivost. Online kulturaje internalizována skrze zesilování kolektivní identity a zesilování extremistických tendencí. Uživatelé fóra vytváří příspěvky o sociálních médiích za účelem posilnění pocitů oběti a udržení fóra v in-group a out-group dynamice oproti zbytku mainstreamové společnosti. \nAnnotation \nThis thesis focuses on the role of online culture and social media in shaping and spreading incel ideology while highlighting the importance of the digital space in discursive processes. With the use of critical discourse analysis, I examine web-scraped data mined from one of the most active incel forums. The data consists of comments in conversation threads where the topic of social media or online culture was mentioned. The analysis explores ways in which discourses of these two dimensions are reflected, reshaped and internalized by the members of the [Incels.is](Incels.is) website community. The analysis concludes that the members of the forum perceive social media as a tool that increases inequalities in the dating market due to the emphasis it puts on physical attractiveness. Online culture is internalized through a specific memetic terminology and rituals which are performed with the intention of strengthening the collective identity and promoting extremist tendencies. Users on the forum create posts about social media to reinforce feelings of victimhood and to reinterpret reality through their ideological lens. This creates a division vis-à-vis the mainstream society and maintains the forum in an in-group and out-group dynamic. Internet content is purposefully \nbrought [to Incels.is](to Incels.is) for reactive purposes of other members with the intention of selectively amplifying incel narratives and inciting further expressions of radical behavior. \nKlíčová slova \nincel, extrémismus, ","cbCaibceIw5AqVEH","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibceIw5AqVEH","pdf",1830812,58,"English","# Introduction\n## Theoretical part\n## Methodology\n## Analysis\n### Shaping of ideology by social media and online culture","[{\"question\":\"What is the main focus of the thesis?\",\"answer\":\"The thesis focuses on how online culture and social media shape and spread incel ideology through digital discursive processes.\"},{\"question\":\"What data and method are used?\",\"answer\":\"The study uses web-scraped comment threads from an active incel forum and applies critical discourse analysis to them.\"},{\"question\":\"How do forum members interpret social media in relation to incel ideology?\",\"answer\":\"Forum members perceive social media as increasing inequalities in the dating market, largely because these platforms emphasize physical attractiveness.\"}]","The role of online culture and social media in shaping and spreading incel ideology | PDF",146]
