As time went by, the suppression only got worse. It started with batons and chemical gasses, then paintball cartridges, then shotguns, and now there are witnesses and evidence of the use of military-grade combat weapons.  \nIn this special edition of The Revolution Times, we look into some of the bullets and their specifications that are being used by Islamic Republic forces against people’s uprisings.  \nPlease know that some details, including people’s names, are not shown in this report due to security reasons. Please read with caution and take care of yourself.  \nMade by Iran & Europe  \nSome images taken by people show clear casingsand the inscription “Maham 12” on the metal base of the shotguns, indicating they were 12-gauge cartridges manufactured by Shahid Shiroudi Military Industries, one of Iran’s largest ammunition manufacturers. Several of the Maham cartridges bore markings in English.  \nA member of security forces told journalists that:  \n“ We have a lot of the Maham transparent casings. The cartridges which are filled with “soft” balls usually have larger rubber balls inside. They are painful, but they hurt less if you avoid shooting atthe face and eyes. “Hard” balls are smaller, and the cases have lots of hard beads in them.”  \nAccording to FRANCE 24 Observers, evidence shows that one of the shotgun cartridges used in Iran against protesters is manufactured by French-Italian manufacturer, Cheddite. These shotguns have been widely used for hunting purposes in Iran for years. Cheddite claims to bethe world’s largest maker of empty shotgun cartridges and firing caps, producing more than a billion empty cartridges annually. The company makes empty cartridges with plastic casings and metal bases that contain a spark-producing primerand sells them to other manufacturers who fill the cartridges with explosive powder and pellets or other projectiles.  \nInjuries  \nCheddite and Maham shotguns (AKA birdshot) have blinded over 500 people since the beginning of the 2022 uprising in Iran. Based on medical documents, the range of injuries included mutilated retinas, severed optic nerves, and punctured irises.  \nThey have also caused multiple injuries on the body. One person may get hurt on many body parts due to the high shooting speed and number of bullets in each shot.  \nIn case of close distances and hitting critical body parts, like the head, they have also caused death.
