New Antioch.There he beganrecruiting volunteers for his vendetta.As agifted orator driven by the anguish of his loss,Ernest soon gathered a following of manybereaved soldiers like himself.Thus the firstRed Brigade was formed and Ernest led hisunofficial warband into the No Man's Land ona hunt for Heretics,through ambush and deepstrikes at the vulnerable enemy supply lines.His bloodsoaked warriors soon began toresemble their leader in appearance whichearned the unit its name.  \nTheir skilland cunning on the battlefieldcaught the attention of the throne of NewAntioch and the Red Brigade was recognisedas an official unit in the ducal armed forces.  \nSince those times the Red Brigade has beenused as the personal special operations forceby the Duke of New Antioch.These drivensoldiers undertake the most dangerousmissions where unsustainable casualtieswould make it impossible to use the regularunits.To join the Red Brigade a soldier has tovolunteer,bringing to the recruiting officer apiece of kit tarnished by the blood of fallencomrades as proof of their right to serve as a'Blood Pledge',as the soldiers of the Brigadeare known.  \nAs a unit under the direct command of theDuke,the Red Brigade is granted manyprivileges while garrisoned within the city,inaddition to arms and provisions from the city'sstores.Their barracks are located at the ducalpalace,and before the Red Brigade leaves fora mission they dine at the table of the Dukeand his closest officers,in a lavish banquetknown as the Feast of the Dead Men.  \nDue to their propensity for hunting high-valuetargets,the Red Brigade is supplied withwarhounds from the kennels of the Duke.These loyal beasts give solace and  \ncompanionship to the troopers and have beentrained to provide the soldiers with grenadesin the heat of battle when the Red Brigadestrives to take heavily defended enemystrongpoints and trenches.Malinois,  \nwolfhounds and mastiffs are especially popular,and much-loved by the soldiery of the unit.  \nAfter each fray it is the task of the Quartermaster of theBrigade to gather the arms and red armour of the fallenand redistribute it so new recruits will have a real,tangible link to the fallen.But when faced with a battlewhere the commander of the Brigade sees there is nohope of survival,it is customary to dispatch one of theirsoldiers back to New Antioch in order to notify the Dukeof the unit's demise.This messenger is chosen bydrawing lots and the selected soldier takes the dogtagsof the entire unit back to the Home of AllOur Hopes,tobe hung
