It was going to be a great day. All the pupils who had performed well in class as well as in other activities in the school were going to be rewarded. The day had finally come. \nIn the morning, the teacher on duty rang the bell and we all gathered at the parade ground. Everyone looked clean and preety. The Grade 2 and 3 pupils were full of joy. They jumped up and down at the parade ground. The prefect on duty was unable to to control them. i offered to go and help her in making them remain calm. \nAs soon as the teacher on duty got to the parade ground, she cleared her throat and greeted us, \"Good morning school?\" We all responded in a chrorus, \"Good morning\"Mrs Mtawali\". She continued, ''Today is a great day in our school. I am sure you are all prepared . I would like you to be very disciplined. Remember, your parents will be here anytime. For that reason , i would like all of you to go and sit under the big tent according to your classes. \" \nWhen we had all sat down, all the teachers joined us. soon after, different classes started giving their presentations as part of the entertainment. \nThe first class to present was Grade 2. They had a lullaby song and a poem about education. They recited the poem very nicely that everybody clapped for them. It was enjoyable listening to them. \nDifferent classes followed with different presentations. The best was a traditional dance by Grade 7 learners. They sang and danced very well. The leader danced as if he had no bones. all learners clapped and imitated him as he danced while the teachers watched in excitement. The parents who had now come in large numbers clapped and cheered , some joining him at the dancing area. At the end , the Grade 7 learners received loud cheers from all of us. it was nice watching them perform. \nThen came the time for the awards. The headteacher was in charge of this part. First, he called out the names of those who performed well in classwork during the whole year. They were all given presents for their good performance. Next were those who had done well in co-curricullar activities. The games teacher was invited to call their names. Starting with those who were good in ball games then athletics and lastly in music and drama. They all received prizes. We all admired them as each was given a pair of sports shoes. I promised myself to work hard the following year so as to receive an award too. \nThe headteacher then annonced that there was a special prize from one of the guests. The headteacher said that all the guests had been greatly impressed by the dancing skills of Chitembe, the Grade 7 boy who led the traditional dance. For that reason, the cheif dedcided to enroll him in a music and dance school. He wanted to help Chitembe perfect his skill. There were cheers and dancing at the mention of this. Chitembe was called to the front and people gave him many gifts for his good performance. It was a wonderful day. \nCheck Your Understanding \n1.
