Wear a hat that protects your hair. \n2. Stir your paint beforehand in a figure eight pattern using a flat paddles mixing stick. Don’t use round sticks, they don’t mix the paint, they only move it around. \n3. Always work from top to bottom. \n4. Oil-based paint should be applied with an excellent quality brush or foam rollers. \n5. When working with a roller, use long, back and forth movements in a “W”pattern. Each stroke must smooth the edges of the one before it. \n6. Remember that water-based paints do look patchy at first, but they will even out. \n7. When painting, never stop in the middle of a wall. Always paint corner to corner. \n8. Be careful not to paint yourself into a corner. \nThe importance \n“When in doubt read the instructions on the back of the tin” \n-Cliff Kay \n6 preparation tricks to save money and time \nThe tips and tricks you probably don’t know! Memorise these to help you save money and time. \n1. Vacuum or dust surfaces – preferably with sugar soap. \n2. Scrub splatters, scuffs and crayon marks from your walls and ceilings. \n3. Use the appropriate sealers to cover grease and water stains. \n4. Sand glossy surfaces to a dull texture or use an abrasive cleaner or primer. \n5. Flatten peeling paint, bubbles and loose plaster. \n6. Use a putty knife or scraper to undercut smallcracks and holes. Follow by priming with a plaster primer pack with correct filler and prime again before painting. “Hot dog effect” \n-Cliff Kay \n1. Use a plaster primer to prime raw surfaces – those areas that have never been painted before. \n2. If you are changing the shade of your \nwall from a light to a dark shade, always use a primer. Tint your primer to a lighter shade of the colour you wish to achieve; a dark colour over a light colour. \n3. Don’t use all-purpose primers if possible. Use aprimer specifically designed for the surface area of the job at hand. \n“The more you know, the less you need.” \n-Australian Aboriginal saying \nHow to tackle \nproblem surfaces \nPreparation \nInterior Surfaces \nIt is important to prepare your surfaces before you start todo any work on your walls. \n1.
