Lavender is going to a feast held in a scary place, and upon arriving, she mistakes Gator for a floating log before realizing the danger. She flies home in fear, unable to even count the trees correctly due to her terror. Her friend Plum flies by, and Lavender, not wanting to admit her fear, claims she is just tired. Plum continues to the feast held in Gator's mouth. Lavender spends the night hungry and afraid. The next day, she decides to eat leaves, which fills her up but makes her feel unwell and thin. She realizes she needs to find a better meal to regain her strength. The story highlights themes of fear, courage, and the importance of finding proper sustenance.","The Plover and the Gator Amani Jazzia \nMona Mohammed \nOn the banks of the Nile river, a young plover named Lavender was getting ready for a feast. The feast was going to be in a scary place full of prickly teeth. \nWhen Lavender arrived, it was very quiet. She didn’t see anything but a floating log and a bird nearby. Suddenly, the log swallowed the bird! \nOh! It wasn’t a log then. It was Gator! As usual, Gator had been sitting like a statue, waiting for his prey. Lavender gulped from fear and quickly flew home before anyone saw her. \nLavender shivered with fear as she tried to find her way home.”Where’s my house? Oh yes! It’s on the fourth tree . Let me count them. One, two, three, ten. Oh no! Two, seven, five . . . No that isn’t right either. I am so terrified that I can’t even count!” \nLavender’s friend Plum flew by and noticed her shivering.”What is wrong, my friend? Are you scared?” he asked. \nLavender did not want Plum to know how frightened she was . ”I never get scared, I’m just tired,” she replied. \nPlum continued on his way, flying back to the feast in the gator’s mouth. Lavender spent the night between fear and hunger. \nAfter the long night, Lavender realized she would have to find something to eat soon . \nShe decided to try nibbling a leaf. \n”This is not too bad,” she said, and gobbled up many more leaves until she felt full. \nBut after a few days of eating nothing but leaves, Lavender did not feel well. She looked thin and tired in the mirror .
