Mistaking the majestic bird for a peculiar pigeon due to her limited experience, she proceeds to critique its appearance, focusing on its beak, claws, and head feathers. The story unfolds with the old woman's insistence on her definition of a pigeon, despite the eagle's protests. The narrative humorously highlights the contrast between the woman's preconceived notions and the reality of the eagle's identity. The story is attributed to Idries Shah and illustrated by Natasha Delmar, with the provided images depicting key moments of their interaction. The initial encounter features the eagle perched on a branch, followed by a scene where the eagle displays its wings while the old woman, peeking from her doorway, seems surprised. The third image captures a closer interaction where the old woman, now clearly dressed in traditional attire, gestures towards the eagle, emphasizing their dialogue. The story is set in a whimsical past where everyday objects and concepts are comically reversed, adding to its enchanting quality.","The Old Woman and the Eagle \nIdries Shah \nNatasha Delmar \nOnce upon a time, when cups were plates and when knives and forks grew in the ground, there was an old woman who had never seen an eagle. \nOne day, an eagle was flying high in the sky and decided to stop for a rest. He swooped down and landed—where do you think? \nHe landed right at the front door of the old woman’s house. \nThe old woman took a long, hard look at the eagle and said,”Oh my, what a funny pigeon you are!” \nShe figured he was a pigeon, you see, because although she had never seen an eagle, she had seen lots of pigeons . \n”I’m not a pigeon at all,” said the eagle, drawing himself up to his full height. \n”Nonsense!” said the old woman .”I’ve lived for more years than you’ve got feathers in your wings, and I know a pigeon when I see one .” \n”If you’re so sure that I’m a pigeon,” said the eagle,”then why do you say I’m a funny pigeon?” \n”Well, just look at your beak,” said the old woman . ”It’s all bent. Pigeons have nice, straight beaks. \nAnd look at those claws of yours! Pigeons don’t have long claws like that. \nAnd look at the feathers on top of your head! They are all messed up and need to be brushed down . Pigeons have nice, smooth feathers on their heads.” \nAnd before the eagle could reply, she got hold of him and carried him into the house.","cbCaihCg0ECTeJ8M","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaihCg0ECTeJ8M","pdf",2642353,25,"English","en",105,"","[{\"question\":\"What was the old woman's initial reaction to seeing the eagle?\",\"answer\":\"The old woman had never seen an eagle before and mistook it for a very funny-looking pigeon.\"},{\"question\":\"What specific features did the old woman point out as unusual for a pigeon?\",\"answer\":\"She noted the eagle's bent beak, long claws, and messy head feathers, believing pigeons had straight beaks, short claws, and smooth head feathers.\"},{\"question\":\"What did the old woman do after her assessment of the eagle?\",\"answer\":\"Before the eagle could respond to her observations, she caught him and carried him inside her house.\"}]",1783572012,39,{"code":4,"msg":29,"data":30},"ok",{"site_id":23,"language":22,"slug":31,"title":13,"keywords":24,"description":14,"schema_data":32,"social_meta":84,"head_meta":86,"extra_data":88,"updated_unix":26},"the-old-woman-and-the-eagle",{"@graph":33,"@context":83},[34,51,66],{"@type":35,"itemListElement":36},"BreadcrumbList",[37,41,45,48],{"item":38,"name":39,"@type":40,"position":11},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":42,"name":43,"@type":40,"position":44},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":46,"name":12,"@type":40,"position":47},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/story-novel/",3,{"item":49,"name":13,"@type":40,"position":50},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/the-old-woman-and-the-eagle/49012/",4,{"url":49,"name":13,"@type":52,"author":53,"headline":13,"publisher":55,"fileFormat":58,"inLanguage":22,"description":14,"dateModified":59,"datePublished":60,"encodingFormat":58,"isAccessibleForFree":61,"interactionStatistic":62},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":54},"Person",{"url":38,"name":56,"@type":57},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-07-13","2026-07-09",true,{"@type":63,"interactionType":64,"userInteractionCount":11},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":65},"ViewAction",{"@type":67,"mainEntity":68},"FAQPage",[69,75,79],{"name":70,"@type":71,"acceptedAnswer":72},"What was the old woman's initial reaction to seeing the eagle?","Question",{"text":73,"@type":74},"The old woman had never seen an eagle before and mistook it for a very funny-looking pigeon.","Answer",{"name":76,"@type":71,"acceptedAnswer":77},"What specific features did the old woman point out as unusual for a pigeon?",{"text":78,"@type":74},"She noted the eagle's bent beak, long claws, and messy head feathers, believing pigeons had straight beaks, short claws, and smooth head feathers.",{"name":80,"@type":71,"acceptedAnswer":81},"What did the old woman do after her assessment of the eagle?",{"text":82,"@type":74},"Before the eagle could respond to her observations, she caught him and carried him inside her house.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":49,"og:type":85,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":56,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":87,"canonical":49},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":23},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":90},[91,94,98,102,107,112,117,122,127,130,134],{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":43,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":92,"slug":93},90,"story-novel",{"id":44,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":43,"category_name":95,"show_sort_weight":96,"slug":97},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":50,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":43,"category_name":99,"show_sort_weight":100,"slug":101},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":103,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":43,"category_name":104,"show_sort_weight":105,"slug":106},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":108,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":43,"category_name":109,"show_sort_weight":110,"slug":111},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":113,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":43,"category_name":114,"show_sort_weight":115,"slug":116},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":118,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":43,"category_name":119,"show_sort_weight":120,"slug":121},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":123,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":43,"category_name":124,"show_sort_weight":125,"slug":126},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":125,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":43,"category_name":128,"show_sort_weight":125,"slug":129},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":131,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":43,"category_name":132,"show_sort_weight":131,"slug":133},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":135,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":43,"category_name":136,"show_sort_weight":103,"slug":137},19,"General","general"]
