It explains concepts such as taswiyah, nafkh, the soul’s coming into existence, and the image (Sūrat), while addressing evidence for the soul’s non-divisibility and attachment or non-attachment. The work further explores afterlife themes including the Lawh Al-Mahfuz, resurrection, judgment, intercession, paradise pleasures, and grave punishment.","[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nQadeem Press Edition \nBreathing Life into Forgotten Pages [www.qadeempress.com](www.qadeempress.com)[ ](www.qadeempress.com)Reprinted by Qadeem Press in 2026 \nFind our titles on your favourite online bookstore using the keyword‘Qadeem Press’. \nThis work has been selected by scholars as culturally important. It won immediate popularity throughout the whole Muslim world, where it was accepted as an authoritative and one of the finest works on mystical expression. I have based my translation upon the original Arabic work by AlGhazālī. Even while translating from one European language to another, it is sometimes a matter of extreme difficulty to find accurate equivalents. This is especially so in the case of the Arabic language, particularly in dealing with such an abstract and complex idea as that of the soul. The charm of the original book is more than can be translated into English, but here the main aim is rather to make clear the ideas and concepts that occupied the author's mind. If a translator thinks out afresh on the same lines and has control over his medium equal to that of the author, then why should not as good a result be obtained? \nHaving written the original work, Al-Ghazālī can persuade his readers that he has cast a ray of light on the secret places of the heart and that he has increased by a mite to the sum of human understanding about the soul. His is no mean feat. It is a high art to distill the essence of experience into mysticism, and to do so is to contribute something rare and fine to a world sadly in need of it. I wish to thank all those who helped me while this book was being prepared. \nAbdul Qayyum \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nIntroduction \nThe question \"What is the human soul?\" is as old as man's first appearance on the earth.
