we prepare for Mission Sunday we offer in this bulletinseveral articles that should be inspiring in spirit and contentand should be a source of priestly meditation in preparation formission sermons. \nThere is an army in foreign lands under the direction of theSupreme Shepherd of Christendom spreading the gospel of peaceand love in the hearts of men.We must not,we cannot, becomeremiss or negligent concerning its welfare. This army of 250,-000 missioners carries no weapons.Only a crucifix with theimage of Jesus Crucified is in its hands and on its lips a messageof devotion for God and man. \nThe missionary army of Christ speaks to us in these pagesthrough its illustrious representatives—Bishop Vesters, who hasgrown old in the service of his missionary Church,—FatherGladstone, brilliant young negro priest,—Father Fox of the So-ciety of Jesus, laboring in Alaskan mission fields. We present, too,Father Pierre Charles'article on“The Holy Eucharist andthe Missions.\"It is not new but it is most timely.Priestly zealis increased and missionary zeal is nourished by a love for theEucharistic Christ.May the words of these authors inspire ourAmerican Clergy to\"carry on\"for their brothers in the the burdenwhich the missionaries carry in a strange land and under tryingcircumstances. They do not share the opinion of so many lay-men who consider the life of the missionary a series of excitingadventures and bodily hardships whilst having no thought forhis thirst for the souls, his appaling loneliness and mental suf-ferings. \nEspecially are the reporters of our secular papers hunting forstories of sensational happenings which will make big headlinesin the dailies. No doubt the missionary's life, particularly inprimitive countries,is bristling with dangers and narrow escapesand death,as for example, years ago in our own Rabaul vicari-ate,the cruel murder,in less than five minutes,of ten youngmissionaries,or in more recent times the terrible volcanic erup-tion which took a toll of 500 native lives and destroyed largeareas of fertile country. However the missionary is shy torelate such stories, since he is not the man to pose as a hero oran adventurer. He so naturally takes for granted every thingthat is inherent to his career full of risks, that it does not evenstrike him as something extraordinary. His habitual confidencein God makes him overlook the hazardous side of his life. \nHowever there appear in the missionary's life situations andcircumstances of a spiritual nature which are for him a source ofreal concern and suffering... \nThe first is the initial lack of response on the part of thenatives, the reasons of","cbCaijm6Xo6h4wHH","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijm6Xo6h4wHH","pdf",768628,"English","# Foreword\n# The Missionary’s Work\n# Mission Spirit","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of this September 1942 bulletin for Mission Sunday?\",\"answer\":\"It offers several articles intended to inspire priests spiritually and provide material for priestly meditation in preparation for Mission Sunday sermons.\"},{\"question\":\"How is the missionary “army” described in the foreword?\",\"answer\":\"It is described as spreading the gospel of peace and love, carrying no weapons, and relying on a crucifix and a message of devotion to God and man.\"},{\"question\":\"What burdens does the missionary face according to the article “The Missionary’s Work”?\",\"answer\":\"The text highlights spiritual concern from initial lack of response, loneliness and communication barriers with natives, delayed or lost mail, limited access to other clergy, and severe risks when sickness becomes life-threatening.\"}]","THE MISSIONARY’S WORK - Mission Spirit - September 1942 | PDF",1789965310]
