I held my daughter tight as she tried to pull away. I didn’t care that I embarrassed her in front of a passing fraternity house members. My baby girl was a grown woman now, and I’m going to enjoy this last hug until I see her again for Thanksgiving.  \n“I’ll be okay, mom,” she said and managed to break my grasp.  \n“I know, but I won’t be,” I sighed as I fixed her beautiful brown hair that she got from me. I pulled in her one more time.“I love you. So proud of you.”  \n“I love you too, mom,” Samantha replied.  \nThe rumbles above us broke our hug. I stared at the darkening clouds that only enhanced the mood I was in.  \n“Be careful driving home,” Samantha said as she grabbed her bags.  \n“Do you need help?”  \n“No, I’m fine,” she replied and motioned to leave.“Text me when you get home.”  \nWith a sigh, we said our last ‘I love you’s’ and I watched her vanish into the campus behind thick trees. I turned to my old car that needed more work than I and sat behind the steering wheel.  \n“Well, now I can finally have money to fix you up,” I said and patted the steering.“Just get me home ol’ girl.”  \nAn hour into my drive and nature decided to weep for me in heavy, sometimes violent, rainfall. My windshield rushed against the intense rain as the radio blasted my favorite songs. I held back my tears as I reflected on my years as a single mother of two. Those long years of  \nlaughter, tears, arguments, and late night sobs over feeling like a shit mom was finally behind me. The sense of freedom helped choke back some of the tears as I reminded myself that it is my turn to live however I wish.  \nHome was still over two hours away. Samantha just had to pick the college that would add ungodly miles to the already worn down four door sedan. I adjusted my seating and wished the rain would let up. To my horror, I heard a loud pop and my car hydroplane on a deep puddle. I tried to correct, but found myself in a shallow ditch. My hands were shaky and my heart raced. I was fine, thank goodness, but dread sunk in fast. With umbrella in hand, I hurried around the front of my car and groaned at a busted tire. There was no way to patch it and it would be difficult to drive on it. It was times like these I wish I knew how to change a tire, I kick myself now for not knowing. The mud underneath made it hard to walk and I knew I was stuck regardless if I could change one or not.  \nThe rain was damn near horizontal as I slammed my car door behind me. I dried my face and toss the umbrella onto the floorboard. I grabbed my phone and cursed at the no bars.  \n“This is how I die,” I grumbled.“Like in a horror movie.”  \nAnother slow sigh escaped me. I tucked my hands into my coat pockets and rested my head. I took relief knowing that I wasn’t hidden from the road, and hopefully someone could pull me out if they see me.  \nWell, someone did see me about half an hour later. The truck lights headed towards the small town I’d passed and pulled to the side of the road. To my surprise, a young, and rather good-looking, man hurried against the wind and slid down the mud until he was at my window. I rolledit down and lost my breath to the man’s beautiful smile.  \n“Are you okay, miss?” he hollered over the roaring rain.  \n“I popped a tire and I’m stuck,” I replied.  \n“I’ll give you a lift, I’m heading to town,” he said. His blue eyes fixed on mine and made my heart trust him.  \nAfter grabbing the important thing, he helped me up the slight incline and into his large truck. He was clearly a single man as empty fast  \nfood bags littered the floorboards and the male musk circled the air.
