MessageAnnual Repart,1941-42 \nWAR year fraught with uncertainty, unexpected changes, and a complete reversal of many welil laid plans. And yet,a golden year in which the fraternity added two new studentchapters, witnessed the national revival of several alumnae chapters, and completed two of its most important projects —the Matrix andEndowment funds. That,in brief,is the story of the year 1941-42 inthis the 33rd year of Theta Sigma Phi's existence. \nAlpha Phi chapter installed in the fall of 1941 at Athens,Ohio,by Harriet Dailey Collins and Alpha Chi installed in the spring of1942 at Stillwater,Okla.by Gladys Whitley Henderson are our twonew chapters. Our heartiest welcome to both! \nThe completion of the Matrix fund insures a sufficient sum onhand at all times to refund unexpired portions of subscriptions toTHE MATRIX should unforeseen eventualities necessitate suspensionof publication at any time.At the same time it makes available forediting and publishing of the magazine every cent paid in by sub-scribers.The completion of the Endowment fund insures the fra-ternity a financial backlog, which, under dire circumstances —suchas those which might arise during a war like that we are now engagedin—could be drawn upon to keep the fraternity extant. At thesame time it makes available for other uses monies formerly paid intothe Endowment fund.Just how these monies are to be allocated in \nSally Moore \nthe future the fraternity will be asked to vote upon as soon as all chapters are again functioning afterthe summer vacation period.ALL MONIES of both the Matrix and Endowment funds are investedin United States War Savings bonds. \nThis year, because of travel uncertainties and rising prices attendant upon our entrance into the war,the fraternity voted to suspend the annual convention. The wisdom of our vote has been apparentwith each succeeding month. However,it is our present intention to convene next summer, probablyin or near Chicago.Only specific government orders or rulings will change this plan. \nMany new problems face us in the coming year. Most vital will be the revision of the fraternity'sstudent chapter schedule to conform with \"speed-up\"curriculums being adopted by colleges throughoutthe country. Our executive secretary is now drawing up this schedule after collecting data from reg-istrars of all colleges in which we have chapters.Pledging and initiation rules are certain to bechanged.Other important revisions will also result. \nGreater participation by the fraternity,as a national unit,in the war program is another futureproject.Your Victory committee will report to you on this.Great strides have been made thisyear by our executive secretary in the consolidation and simplification of the fraternity's business pro-cedure and by your special finance committee, the national treasurer, and national auditor in the re-vision of our financial set-up.This work will be carried forward in the coming year. Our Place-ment bureau has accomplished much this year.It will continue to do so in the coming year. \nMany,as yet unknown, problems undoubtedly lie ahead of us.As they arise we will meet themto the best of our ability,as Theta Sigma Phi_always has, keeping ever before us the fraternity'sdesire to serve our country as best we may.To accomplish this your National Council asks a con-tinuance of the splendid cooperation and counsel it has had from every member of Theta Sigma Phi.We know we may count on you.Be assured we will endeavor to continue to serve you as you in-struct us to do.—Sally Moore
