per year \nOctober 1945 \nThis Issue: \nThe Story Behind \"The Bells\" \nAbout“The Bells of St.Mary's,”by John O'Connor \nAddress all letters to Impressions,THE MARIANISTMagazine,108 Franklin St.,Dayton 2,Ohio. \nKeeping in touch \nDear Editor: \nThis trip on an ocean whose name I maynot even whisper is giving me one thing, atany rate—the opportunity to write letters.I could even write a book if I were inclinedthat way.But we'll save the book for mytrip back. \nBefore I forget, please give the circula-tion manager of THE MARIANIST my newaddress. It has changed five times in thepast two months, and may soon changeagain;but I have no way of predictingthose things. The final copy of THE MA-RIANIST(June-July)reached me on July14th,after going to Massachusetts, thenOklahoma, then Camp Beale,California.Ibelieve I sent a card noting a change ofaddress at Camp Beale,to Dayton, butwhether it was to your office or not,I'′mnot sure.At any rate, the above address isthe one to use until further notice.I'mgrateful for every MARIANIST I received;they double and triple in value, once youget away from home and the communitylife. \nThe last MARIANIST I read on a crowd-ed troop train—on one of those coachesthat you read about in newspapers. It mademy trip of about 24 hours much less tire-some,for I read everything —cover tocover.Too bad the issue wasn't even larger.Chaplain A.J.MeCarthy \nCatholic Education \nDear Fditor: \nI think that the article“Blueprint forCatholic Education”contained an idea thatshould be well pondered by Catholic parentswho are sending their sons and daughtersto college. All too common is the idea thatan education means preparing the studentdirectly and solely to make a living.Thereis more to life than earning money,essen-tial as that always is.This point, however, was not the most impressive one of BrotherHoeffken's article as far as I am concerned.I think he very ably proved that the bestway to learn how to make a living is firstto get a liberal education which will so traina student as to enable him to make a suc-cess of any walk of life he chooses to enter. \nI hope other readers of THE MARIAN-IST got as much profit out of this article asI did.Mrs.M.C.T.,Louisville,Ky. \n# More on Fiction\n\nDear Editor: \nThe many advantages of THE MARIAN.IST have been brought to my attention atvarious times. \nI particularly enjoy the short stories thatappear each month, the cleverness of con1-bining religion with modern fiction andmore so the thought that comes to onewhen he studies the cover picture of eachissue. \nE.L.M.,Dayton,Ohio \nRosary Collection \nDear Editor: \nIn the February issue of THE MARIAN-IST you had a picture of A.J.Leveque andpictures of some inlay work, but no mentionof the wonderful Rosary flag he made.MyRosary collection contains this flag as wellas two inlaid Rosary plaques. Two of theLarge Home Rosaries(large rosaries thathang on the wall of a home for family orindividual use)each have fifty differentkinds of wood, covering many states andcountries. \nMy Rosary collection is from many statesin the United States, and many, many for-eign countries and made of hundreds ofkinds of wood,seed,bone,metal,gold,sil-ver,babbit,steel,copper,and nany holythings. For instance, one has some soil ofthe Hill of Calvary in the cross;one hasthe soil of the Catacombs in the cross;an-other one from the St.Anne De BeaupreShrine in Canada has three relics in thecrucifx;still another Rosary is made ofwood and seeds of the Garden of Olives, supposed to be off-shoots of those that grewat the time that Our Lord was there. \nJ.L.Randall,Joplin,Mo. \n# FICTION\n\nNight Train to Jerusalem .....… ....Dorothy Dunn \n4 \n# ARTICLES\n\nThe Bells of St.Mary's
