He threw his hook into the sea and waited, but he did not catch a single fish.  \n2  \nThe next day, Grandpa Kalontas went back to the sea. This time he carried a fishing spear. But everywhere he stepped, the fish heard him coming. He did not spear a single fish that day.  \n3  \nThe next day Grandpa Kolontas took his canoe and his fishing net, and paddled out to the reef. He cast his net, then pulled it back, but there was not a single fish inside his net. Then he sawa big hole in the side of his net.  \nGrandpa said to himself, \" Because I have not been able to catch a single fish, I will never go fishing again \" So he rowed back to shore.  \n4  \nAt supper time he told Grand ma Talie, \" I will never go fishing again \"  \nBut Grand ma Talie said, \"You must go fishing. Otherwise we will only have dry food to eat \"  \nEvery day Grand ma Talie went to the garden to bring back vegetables to eat, and she would always complain about how dry they were. She longed to eat fresh fish.  \n5  \nOne day, when Grand ma Talie was walking in the woods, she thought she heard a man speaking. In front of her was a big pile of rope blocking the path. She heard a voice say, \"Old woman, old woman, listen to me \" Grandma looked everywhere to see where the voice was coming from, but she saw no one, only the pile of rope. The voice said, \"Carry the rope to your husband, and tell him to weave a fishing net with this rope. If he does so, your family and everyone in the village will always have fish  \n6  \nGrand ma Talie did not understand, but she picked up the rope and carried it back to the house. When she saw Grandpa, she told him,\"When I was in the woods, I heard a man's voice. The voice told me to bring this rope to you, so that you could weave it into a fishing net. It is a magic rope, and if you make a net from it, it will catch enough fish for us and everyone in the village \"  \nGrandpa laughed and said, \"This story of yours is very funny \" He took the rope and set it down  \n7  \nAfter some weeks had passed, Grandpa Kalontas began to think again about the rope. He wondered if the rope really was magical.  \nGrandpa took the rope down to thesea, and he began to weave it. He worked on the rope for a full day and a full night.  \n8  \nOnce the fishing net was finished, Grandpa Kalontas folded it up into his canoe, and paddled out to the reef. He threw the net out into the sea, and then he waited.  \n9  \nAfter some time, he gave a tug on the net, and he could feel that it was very heavy. So he pulled and pulled and pulled to see what was inside the net.  \nThe net was full of many different kinds of fish! There were big fish and little fish, yellow fish and red fish, long fish and short fish.
