This tradition views stories as a continuum, ranging from children's entertainment to instructional narratives. The story serves a dual purpose: to help children navigate difficult situations and to offer adults a means of stimulating deeper understanding. By engaging with this rich body of oral and written material, both children and adults can cultivate greater flexibility and gain profound insights into themselves and the complexities of life. The narrative unfolds in a prosperous land where the ruler, King Mumkin, encourages innovation and practical arts. He has two sons: Tambal, a dreamer, and Hoshyar, an expert in peculiar devices. The King announces a reward for individuals presenting interesting and useful devices, sparking a rivalry between two craftsmen – an ironsmith and a woodworker – who decide to compete to settle their differences publicly. This sets the stage for the unfolding events of the story, highlighting themes of ingenuity, rivalry, and the potential for learning derived from seemingly simple narratives. The story emphasizes the instrumental function of tales, suggesting their capacity to foster personal growth and a more nuanced perception of the world.","The Magic Horse Idries Shah Julie Freeman \nTHE TEACHING STORY The Magic Horse isone of the hundreds of stories collected by Idries Shah. In the Sufi tradition there is a continuum between the children’s story, the entertainment or folklore story, and the instructional or instrumental story. A story can help children deal with difficult situations and give them something to hold on to. It can, at the same time, stimulate a deeper understanding in adults. Through the \ninstrumental function of this rich body of oral and written material, we and our children can now learn to develop the capacity to be more flexible and to understand many more things about ourselves and about life. \nOnce upon a time – not so very long ago – there was a land in which the people were very prosperous . They had made all kinds of discoveries in the growing of plants, in harvesting and preserving fruits, in making objects for sale to other countries, and in many other practical arts. Their ruler was unusually enlightened, and he encouraged new discoveries and activities because he knew they would help his people. He had two \nsons, Tambal and Hoshyar. \nHoshyar was expert in using strange devices. \nTambal was a dreamer who seemed interested only in things which were of little value in the eyes of the citizens. \nFrom time to time the king, whose name was King Mumkin, would \nmake this announcement: ”Let all those who have interesting and useful devices present them to the palace for examination so that they may be rewarded.” \nNow there were two men of that country, an ironsmith \nand a woodworker, who were great rivals inmost things, and each delighted in making strange contraptions. When they heard this announcement one day, they agreed to compete for an award so that their relative merits could be decided once and for all, and recognized in public by the king.","cbCaimgpX7SsRgrG","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaimgpX7SsRgrG","pdf",4836832,58,"English","en",105,"# The Teaching Story\n## The Magic Horse","[{\"question\":\"What is the significance of the Magic
