Page numbers have been included for easy reference but depending on the printing edition of your Monster Manual, they may not match. \nIn addition, several new creatures have been created for this supplement. They are noted in BOLD with no Monster Manual reference. You can find these creature stat blocks at the end of the adventure in The Creatures of the Madhouse appendix. \nUnless otherwise noted, all NPCs have the stats of a \ncommoner. \nAverage Party Level \nThe Average Party Level (APL) can be used to calculate the appropriate challenge level for your party. To calculate the APL, add the total levels of all characters and divide the sum by the number of characters (rounding up for .5 or greater) . \nSkill Checksand Saving Throws \nSpecific DCs are written for each of the encounters. You may wish to change these DCs based on the APL of the adventuring party. We suggest the below range: \n\n| APL | Check / Save DC |\n| --- | --- |\n| 1st thru 3rd | 11 |\n| 4th thru 6th | 13 |\n| 7th thru 9th | 16 |\n| 10th thru 12th | 19 |\n| 13th thru 15th | 22 |\n\nIn addition, if you feel a skill check or saving throw DC is too low or too high, feel free to adjust the DC as you wish. \nSeveral rooms in this adventure may cause a PC to roll to avoid short-term or long-term madness. \nThese tables are found in Chapter 8: Running the Game in the Dungeon Master’s Guide. That chapter also lists spells which may be effective in suppressing or ridding a creature of madness. \nFor this adventure, whenever a creature fails a madness saving throw and suffers either short-term or long-term madness, they also gain one point of continuing madness until the end of the adventure. \nOnce a creature has accumulated 3 points of continuing madness, that creature then rolls on the Long-Term Madness table, gaining that effect until targeted by the lesser restoration spell or similar magic. \nOnce a creature has accumulated 5 points of continuing madness, that creature then rolls on the Indefinite Madness table, gaining that flaw until targeted by the remove curse spell. \nA Character Ma","cbCaighRBaekFKMs","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaighRBaekFKMs","pdf",3820849,25,"English","# Adventure Primer\n## Average Party Level (APL)\n## Skill Checks and Saving Throws\n## Madness Progression Rules\n## Maps and Room Rules","[{\"question\":\"What is the role of gray-box text in this supplement?\",\"answer\":\"Gray-box text is intended for the DM only and should not be read to players.\"},{\"question\":\"How is Average Party Level (APL) calculated?\",\"answer\":\"Add the total levels of all characters, divide by the number of characters, and round up for .5 or greater.\"},{\"question\":\"What happens when a creature fails a madness saving throw?\",\"answer\":\"If it suffers short-term or long-term madness, it gains one point of continuing madness until the end of the adventure.\"},{\"question\":\"How do rooms and map scale work inside the madhouse?\",\"answer\":\"Unless otherwise noted, map scale uses 1 square = 5 feet (and 1 square = 10 feet elsewhere as stated).
