She works alone from planting the grains to grinding wheat into flour, kneading dough, and baking bread without support. When the bread’s smell fills the air, her friends return only to eat. The hen, having done all the work herself, keeps the bread all to herself and highlights perseverance, responsibility, and fairness.","The Little Red Hen \nEnglish \nStory Book \nThere once was a little red hen who lived with her friends on a farm. \nShe was not a lazy hen. She worked harder than all of the other animals. \n1 \n2 \nThe Little Red Hen wanted to plant some grains of wheat. She asked for help, but her friends refused. \nSo she planted the grains herself. \n3 \nIn the summertime, the wonderful golden wheat was ready to be harvested. \nOnce again, with no one to help her, the Little Red Hen did all the work. \nThe Little Red Hen had to grind the wheat into flour. \nAs usual, her friends did not want to do any hard work. So the Little Red Hen ground the flour herself. \n4 \n5 \nThe Little Red Hen used the flour to make bread dough. \nWith no one to help her, she kneaded the dough all by herself. \n6 \nThe Little Red Hen’s friends had completely abandoned her. So she baked the bread all by herself. \nWhen the smell of freshly baked bread rose up into the air, the Little Red Hen’s friends appeared. \n7 \nThey were willing to help eat the bread, but the Little Red Hen ate it all by herself. She had done all the work! \nThe Little Red Hen \nRetold by Rosie McCormick Illustrated by Gail McIntosh English narration by Mia Fothergill \neBook layout and audio editing by SIL-Education for Life [www.mytalkingbooks.org](www.mytalkingbooks.org) \nEnglish \nCopyright © 2022, SIL-PNG Education for Life \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/) \nYou may not use this work for commercial purposes.
