climbed up the long steps.  \n\"Oh dear,\"murmured the boy kitten,nervously.  \n\"Don't worry.It'l be alright -this time.And I'm here,\"said his sisterreassuringly.  \nThe two kittens had been abandoned at birth and had spent all theirshort lives in a cat home until somewhere permanent could be found forthem to live.There were too many cats at the home for them to have hadmuch attention -and a cuddle or two,perhaps.But at least they had beensafe,and dry,and out of the cold.  \nSuddenly the big black door opened,and a little Boy with fizzing hair,bright,clever eyes and a huge grin,appeared in a shaft of golden lightshining out into the dark night.  \nHe looked excitedly at the basket.“They're here!They're here!”Heshouted,and immediately a Girl,bigger than the Boy,and a Lady camerushing to see.  \n“Hallo,hallo!”The Lady welcomed.\"Come in out of the cold,\"and theMan From The Cat Home wiped his feet on the doormat,entered thewarm hallway,he and the kittens leaving the dark,damp,icy Decembernight behind.  \n3  \nThey followed the Lady along the hallway into a big room.  \n\"Let me see,let me see,\"said the little Boy,beside himself with joy.The Man lifted the blanket and two pairs of little eyes blinked up throughthe grating of the old basket.  \n“Hallo,\"the Boy squealed,bending over to take a closer look.“Can lhold them,can l?”  \nThe Man opened the top of the basket,lifted the two kittens out andput them on the wooden floor of the sitting room.  \nThe boy kitten -a browny-grey tabby,slightly smaller than kittens his  \nage -looked around,and then up at the Boy.He then rolled over on his  \nback.His sister-a beautiful anddelicate English Tortie with eyes big assaucers and a cream and brown stripin the middle of her chin -lookedon..she,too,looked up at the Boy,both pleading with the family to betaken in.  \nThey needn’t have worried.Thelittle Boy -his name was Hugo -andhis elder sister,Claire and their Mumall agreed,there was NO WAYthese little chaps were goingANYWHERE!!  \nHugo picked up the boy kitten and held him close.Claire did the samewith the sister.  \n\"We're going to call you -Phil and Lill,\"Hugo said in his usual definitiveway.  \nPhil looked across at Lill,each in one of the children's arms,a tear inhis eye.\"I-1-I think we've found a home,Lill,\"he said.  \n\"Yes,I think we have,\"replied Lill,snuggling up
