Evalynn K. Hayato M. Madison M. \nChloe Y. \nThe California Local Educational Agency (LEA), provides state testing for public schools. These tests measure the academic performance of students, how good the teachers teach, and the average of how advanced the school is, making them extremely critical in the education system in California. \nThe logo for CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) \nWhile these pieces of information are true in many schools, including JMS, and come straight from the CAASPP website, what do students, teachers, and admins of JMS think of state testing? \n“I think testing is quite necessary, because testing really lets you see where you’re at. I think block scheduling is also very cool, because I think it’s important for students to have more than 1 hour to test, with only three classes you can focus more on the test and less on other work. The reasons that make testing a necessary thing are that students really need to test their abilities and knowledge, because with CAASPP testing they can see what they specialize in.” \nCAASPP testing is an important thing for a student to do, because it allows teachers to see what level the student is in and if the classes they are taking are in the right level for them to be in. Block scheduling is something that some students don’t like, however as a student said it’s important for students to focus more on the testing in that week. And block scheduling gives \nstudents enough time to finish they’re English and Math tests in two weeks. \n“I feel very relieved that we are finished with testing, because it was two weeks long and was hard. I liked the block schedule, because I was able to do more in certain periods and had more time to test. I think testing is important, because with testing we can see where we are at with our knowledge. Testing is a necessary thing, because it lets the school put us in the right classes for the next year.” \n“I think testing is an important thing that students have to do so they can be placed in the right classes suited more for their level of education. I liked the block scheduling, because even though some periods felt really long it allowed me to be able to focus and do my testing for two weeks. Testing is a necessary thing, because it shows us and teachers what level/classes we need to be in so we can further our knowledge in education. This goes for every student, but for the eighth graders this year they will be going and taking highschool classes as a freshman next year so the testing will let us see if we choose and are going into the right classes.” \n“It’s kind of stressful the first few days, but after a while you get more used to it. I understand why they make students test, so they can see what we know, but the whole grading system kind of stresses out a lot of people. Well first off testing lets us see our progress and what to improve for next year which has harder classes. \nIn conclusion, testing is something that probably all students don’t want to do. Since it takes a long time, some questions may be too difficult. However if we didn’t have testing we wouldn’t know if the classes students are taking are way too easy or hard for their level, and wouldn’t be able to put them in the right classes available for them. So testing is an important thing that all students have to do to be placed in the right classes so the student can expand their education and know where they stand academically. \n(Put your Chromebook’s sound on max and click here for free Jaguar paws) \nThe Jefferson Journal Community \nThe Mayor Stepping Up \nBy: Anthony M., Aidan O., Leah S., Mari G. \nThere are many political figures all across the world.
