It outlines the institution of the Passover meal, a pivotal event where the Israelites marked their doorways with the blood of a lamb or goat, a sign for the Lord to pass over their homes during the tenth plague. This plague resulted in the death of the firstborn son in every Egyptian household and the firstborn of their animals. The narrative emphasizes the Israelites' obedience to divine commands through Moses and Aaron, their hasty departure with unleavened bread, and their readiness to leave Egypt. The text also highlights the ensuing widespread mourning among the Egyptians due to the loss of their firstborn. At sunset they killed the male lamb or goat they had chosen. Then they smeared the animal’s blood on the doorways of their homes. \nExodus 12:6-7, 21-22, 28 \nThat same night, they roasted the animal over fire and quickly ate it with bitter herbs and bread made without yeast. This was the first Passover meal. They were ready to leave Egypt. \nExodus 12:8, 11 \nAt midnight, the Lord killed the firstborn son in every Egyptian family, including Pharaoh’s firstborn son. Also, the firstborn of every Egyptian animal died. \nExodus 12:29 \nThat night all the Egyptian people awoke and wailed loudly because their firstborn sons had died. \nExodus 12:30 \nBut the Israelites obeyed the Lord by marking their doorways with lamb’s blood, so the Lord kept his promise to pass over those homes. He did not kill any of their firstborn sons. \nExodus 12:23 \nThat same night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. \nExodus
