It explains why withdrawal from the world and contemplative solitude belong to the Church’s life, linking solitude to Christ’s paschal mystery, Exodus imagery, and a “new exodus” through Christ’s passion. It also frames contemplation alongside the Church’s active mission and cites scriptural and conciliar foundations for enclosure the Enclosure of Nuns\n\nNOTE:The following is only a digest of the Instruction on the Con-templative Life and on the Enclosure of Nuns which was issued by theSacred Congregation for Religious and Secular Institutes on August 15,1969.This summary of the Instruction was made from the translationappearing in the weekly English edition of L'Osservatore Romano ofSeptember 4.—Ed. \n“Come away by yourselves to a lonely place”(Mk.6:31).Numerousare those who have heard this call and have followed Christ, withdrawinginto solitude to worship the Father there. \nBy this inspiration of the Spirit some were led to establish institu-tions dedicated to contemplation alone, among which convents of nunsoccupy a position of great distinction. With vigilant and maternal carethe Church has always watched over virgins consecrated to God and hasdefended their separation from the affairs of the world by issuing aconsiderable number of regulations regarding papal enclosure. \nSince the Second Vatican Council likewise manifested its concernabout this matter, this Instruction continues its work by legislating thenorms to regulate the enclosure of nuns wholly dedicated to contempla-tion.These norms are prefaced by certain fundamental considerationsregarding enclosure itself \nI \nWithdrawal from the world for the sake of leading a more intenselife of prayer in solitude is a very particular way of living and expressingthe paschal mystery of Christ, which is death ordained toward resur-rection. \nThis mystery is portrayed in Holy Scripture in terms of the Exodus, the most important event in the development of Israelite history inasmuchas it forms the basis of Israel's faith and of her more intimate life withGod,an event which the Church recognizes as a certain prefiguration ofChristian salvation. The Word of God delivered us from sin,and throughhis death Christ set us on the return road to the Father. \nBut the death of Christ demands a real type of solitude.Christwithdrew into solitude or into the desert to engage in battle with\"theruler of this worl","cbCailD7rtGUGrtC","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCailD7rtGUGrtC","pdf",2944080,74,"English","# To
