Femoropopliteal TASCA-D Lesions Results Analysis & Discussion \nThe purpose of this study is to examine the correlation and influence of arterial lesions based on TransAtlantic Inter-Society Consensus (TASC) aortoiliac and femoropopliteal classifications and the rate of healing in various pedal amputations post endovascular intervention. \nMethodology & Procedures \nStudy Design: \nThe electronic health records were reviewed for patients who had undergone distal fore-foot amputation and also received endovascular intervention within 90 days prior to amputation throughout the Kaiser Permanente Northern California region between January 2008 and December 2014 . \nInclusion Criteria: \n• Patients who underwent a distal forefoot amputation (toe, ray or TMA) preceded by endovascular intervention (percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, stenting or combination) within 90 days prior to pedal amputation. \nExclusion Criteria: \n• Did not have continuous follow up or had open revascularization. \nComparison Groups Based on Level & Type of Arterial Lesions: \n• Femoropopliteal (TASC I) and aortoiliac (TASC II) lesion categories: \n• Group 1 (TASCA and B) \n• Group 2 (TASC C and D) \nPrimary Outcomes: \n• Healing of distal amputation. \n• Optimal: healed surgical site with suture removal within 2-4 weeks postoperatively. \n• Delayed: surgical site dehiscence which ultimately healed by secondary intention within 3 months with local wound care. \n• Failure: amputation that required either a revision surgery, surgical bypass, or a more proximal amputation within 12 months from the index amputation. \nAnalyses: \nChi-square or Fisher’s exact tests to compare categorical variables. \nFinancial Disclosures: none \nIn 2000 , 14 medical societies ranging from cardiology, vascular surgery, and interventional radiology published the TransAtlantic InterSociety Consensus (TASC I) which included guidelines for the overall management and treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) . 1-3 The anatomic artery lesion classification, described within the consensus, provides surgeons with a treatment algorithm correlating the location and diverse patterns of PAD to the two types of revascularization, open versus endovascular repair. TASC A lesions, simple and short-segmented stenoses, are treated endovascularly compared to the open repair of TASC D lesions, which are described as multiple, complex occlusions. 1 ,4 The surgical management of TASC B and C lesions are primarily based on external factors such as patient comorbidities and surgeon experience.2 In 2007 , the document was updated and further differentiated the anatomic location of lesions into aorto-iliac (TASC II) and femoral-popliteal (TASC I) . 1 It has been previously reported that TASC II A/B lesions inpatients with critical limb ischemia have greater three-year freedom from amputation and vessel patency at 1 year after revascularization.5 \nTo date, no studies have examined the relationship of TASC to healing various pedal amputations. \n\n| \u003Cbr>Table 1: Demographics | |\n| --- | --- |\n| | N (%) |\n| Gender | |\n| Female | 109 (35) |\n| Male | 201 (65) |\n| Comorbidities | |\n| Hypertension | 296 (96) |\n| Diabetes | 277 (89) |\n| ESRD | 82 (27) |\n| Current tobacco use | 36 (12) |\n| Cardiovascular dise","cbCaivbMEtgqZU8Z","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaivbMEtgqZU8Z","pdf",497865,"English","# Study purpose\n# Methodology & procedures\n## Study design and time window\n## Inclusion and exclusion criteria\n## Comparison groups by lesion level and type\n# Outcomes and analysis\n# Background on TASC I and TASC II\n# Results and findings\n## Demographics and comorbidities\n## Amputation levels\n## Lesion distributions (Tables and Figures)\n## Healing comparisons across groups","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of this study regarding the TASC classification?\",\"answer\":\"To examine the correlation and influence of TASC aortoiliac and femoropopliteal classifications on healing rates after various pedal amputations following endovascular intervention.\"},{\"question\":\"Which patients were included in the analysis?\",\"answer\":\"Patients who underwent distal fore-foot amputation (toe, ray, or TMA) preceded by endovascular intervention within 90 days, within the Kaiser Permanente Northern California region during 2008–2014.\"},{\"question\":\"How were healing outcomes defined in the study?\",\"answer\":\"Healing was classified as optimal (healed site with suture removal in 2–4 weeks), delayed (dehiscence healing by secondary intention within 3 months), or failure (revision surgery, bypass, or more proximal amputation within 12 months).\"},{\"question\":\"What statistical methods were used to compare groups?\",\"answer\":\"Chi-square or Fisher’s exact tests were used to compare categorical variables across TASC lesion groups and healing outcomes.\"}]","The Influence of the TASC Classification on Outcomes of Pedal Amputations - Study Summary | PDF",1789402735]
