his B.A.in 1953 fromthe University of Wisconsin and went on to obtainboth an M.A.and a Ph.D.from the University ofMichigan.He is professor emeritus at the Universityof Toronto,where he taught from 1959until 1995 andwhere he twice chaired the Department of MiddleEast and Islamic Studies.  \nDr.Marmura has published medieval Arabic phi-losophicaltexts and translations,as well as numerousarticles on Islamic philosophy,many of them devotedto the thought of Avicenna and al-Ghazali.His publi-cations include an edition of Ibn Sina's Fi ithbat al-nubuwwat(Proof of prophecy);Refutation by Alexanderof Aphrodisias ofGalen's Treatise on the Theory of Motion,with N.Rescher;and Islamic Theology and Philosophy:Studies in Honor of(Gieorge FHourani,of which he wasthe editor.He has also
