The terrace had been swept twice. She had ordered new linens for the guest cottages, replaced the chairs that had developed a slight wobble in the dining room, and approved every floral arrangement by photograph from a hotel suite in Singapore. She had not slept well in two weeks. None of that mattered. What mattered was that her thirteen senior executives, four board members, and the merger team would arrive within the next fortyeight hours and find a world where every doorknob turned without effort and every detail had already anticipated them.  \nA retreat.
