Christthroughout the Gospels and epistles of the New TestamentHowever the Lord Jesus only says two things about His character.He told us that He was gentle’,and He was 'humble.  \nI remember wellwhen I first applied that wonderful Scripture(Matthew 11:28,29)in pastoral counselling.As the severely-depressed lady before us was pouring out the multiple reasons forher condition,I was silently telling the Lord that I honestly feltthat her burdens were simply too great for any person to bear.  \nAfter listening intently to her I said,The Lord Jesus invitesall that are heavy-laden and over burdened to come to Him.Hegoes on to say that we need to take His yoke and learn of Him.'  \nJust then I had a clear mental picture of two oxen yokedtogether with a beam coming from the yoke between them toa heavy cart full of huge sacks behind.I described this sceneto her and said,He is the master carpenter and He has tailor-made a yoke especially for you -it will fit your shoulders soperfectly that it will cause the least amount of chafing anddiscomfort.Then He says that He is gentle enough andhumble enough to come alongside you to share the burdensyou are forced to carry.All you need to do is accept His yokeand His powerful presence beside you -and then to pull theburden with Him at His pace and in His direction!That willmake the burden lighter and the yoke easier!'  \nI went on to describe the scene of Peter walking on thewater.When he took his eyes off Jesus and focussed on thehigh waves and fierce winds he began to sink.He called out  \nto the Lord Jesus to save him and the Lord reached out Hishand and grabbed Peter's.Jesus did not pull him up to put himstraight back into the boat.By then the boat Peter had climbedout of had been blown away by the wind and waves.Nor didJesus put Peter onto the shore(‘terra firma').He placed Peterback on the water and,now holding his hand,said 'Togetherwe can do this!'Only after they had reached the boat did thestorm die down and there was a great calm².  \nI told her that FA.I.TH.stands for'Father All In Thy Hands'and I asked her whether she would like me to pray with her.In my prayer I put all her burdens,all her cares and fears-Imentioned each and every one by name -into His hands.Ipraised Him for His gentleness and humility in coming alongsideher to bear her burdens and to face the raging circumstances ofher life.She was deeply moved by the prayer and I instructedher to put everything that concerns her -every burden intothe hands of God who cares deeply for her.He was preparedto come alongside her in life to bear the burden with her andfor her.I finished the conversation by saying that just as thereare only two ‘mys'in a marriage-that is,my husband and mywife-and the rest is ‘ours',so there are only two ‘mys'in ourrelationship with the LordJesus-that is,my Lord andmy child-and the rest is 'ours'!From now on,'I concluded,let me nothear you talk about“my burden”anymore.You are now yokedtogether with
