It challenges simplified portrayals of Nazism as mere hatred by analyzing the political, economic, and social conditions that enabled its growth. The work traces Nazi organization and leadership, and links the expansion of Nazi groups in America with Nazism’s rise in Germany, emphasizing lessons to prevent recurrence.","Cleveland State University
EngagedScholarship@CSU

| MSL Academic Endeavors eBooks | Books |
| --- | --- |
| 4-2016
Michael Cikraji
Follow this and additional works at: https://engagedscholarship.csuohio.edu/msl_ae_ebooks
Part of the Cultural History Commons, European History Commons, andthe United States HistoryCommons
How does access to this workbenefit you? Many people today thatbelieve they know about Nazism, actually do not understand muchof the movement at all. Put through the sieve of modern Americanpolitical correctness, people often portray Nazism as being solely astudy in hatred. For teachers and writers that do not comprehend(or perhaps even care) about what Nazism actually was, theycommonly oversimplify Hitler’s mass movement. This hatred, theysay, is but another example of a purely European concept toenslave and destroy any person, or any concept, that was not truly“white.” After all, the Nazis hated communists, the VersaillesTreaty, the Weimar Republic, socialists, foreigners, gypsies, labororganizers, and most importantly the Jews.
To people that push this overly generalized theme ofsystematized hatred, the image of the swastika flag is proofenough, since even the most ignorant American can recognize whatseems like the simple illustration of hatred behind Hitler’smenacing, twisted cross. Yet the true lesson behind what Nazismwas rests in why and how the Nazis came to their conclusions aboutthe world. We are forever tortured by Nazism’s eternal andominous questions! How did they gain so much influence overtheir followers? How did they legitimize a program that outwardlyseemed so brutal and inhuman? And ultimately, how did theyestablish a gargantuan military machine that almost took over theworld","cbCaivd1Uix0UJ70","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaivd1Uix0UJ70","pdf",5943081,2,1,253,"English","en",105,"# Table of Contents
## Introduction
## Chapter 1: Cleveland’s Nazi Bund
## Chapter 2: The Silvershirt Legion
## Chapter 3: The Propaganda Machine
## Chapter 4: The German Societies","[{"question":"What purpose does the book state for studying Nazism?","answer":"The introduction presents the book as a warning and argues that people often know about Nazism without understanding what the movement actually was.
