The narrative follows a young man who works extensively in his large rice fields, tending to his water buffalo. One day, while plowing, he discovers a heron struck by an arrow, with the arrowhead lodged in its thigh. The young man kindly removes the arrow, tends to the bird's wound, and then releases it. Upon returning home that evening, he encounters a beautiful woman who asks him to take her as his wife, suggesting a connection to the rescued heron. The document also includes a copyright notice in Bahasa Indonesia, permitting non-commercial reproduction and adaptation while retaining attribution. This story, originating from the Behoa tradition, explores themes of kindness to animals, compassion, and potentially the consequences of such benevolent actions, hinting at a magical or fated encounter. The illustrations by Fred Adlao visually complement the narrative, depicting scenes of rural life and the protagonist's interactions with the injured heron and the mysterious woman. The story adheres to traditional storytelling structures, emphasizing moral values through its characters and plot development.","The Heron \nEnglish Traditional Story \nCopyright © 2003, SIL International \nYou may not use this work for commercial purposes. The young man's job was to work in the rice fields and also to look after water buffalo. There was no other rice field which could match his for size. Thus he looked after the water buffalo so that they could be used to prepare his rice field which was so large. \nEvery day the young man would go and plough the rice field. \nWhile he was harrowing, he was startled when a bird fell beside him. It was a heron. \nWhen he saw the heron fall beside him, he immediately stopped his water buffalo and went and got the bird. \nHe saw that the heron which had been hit by an arrow still had the arrowhead stuck in its thigh. He said to himself,“You poor thing, bird.” \nAnd so he pulled out the arrowhead. \nWhen he had done that, he tended the wound. When he had finished tending the wound, he spoke to the heron and said,“Are you oknow?” \nAfter he had finished saying,“Are you OKnow?” he let the heron go again. He also returned to his harrowing. That was the work of that man, every day going into his rice fields \nIn the evening he went back to his house. When he arrived at his house, he found a beautiful woman and he asked the woman,“What is your name and where do you come from?” \nThe woman answered,“Don't be afraid. I ama good person, and if you want, you can take me for your wife.”","cbCailcAl7kvicns","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCailcAl7kvicns","pdf",823264,24,"English","en",105,"# The Heron\n## English Traditional Story\n## Traditional Behoa story told by: Santiaji Malonta\n## Illustrated by: Fred Adlao","[{\"question\":\"What is the main plot of \\\"The Heron\\\"?\",\"answer\":\"The story is about a young man who rescues an injured heron and, upon returning home, finds a beautiful woman who asks to be his wife.\"},{\"question\":\"Who are the main contributors to this story?\",\"answer\":\"Santiaji Malonta retold the traditional Behoa story, and Fred Adlao provided the illustrations.\"},{\"question\":\"What are the copyright and usage terms for this work?\",\"answer\":\"The work is copyrighted by SIL International in 2003 and can be adapted and used for non-commercial purposes, provided the copyright and credits are maintained.\"}]",1784314820,37,{"code":4,"msg":29,"data":30},"ok",{"site_id":23,"language":22,"slug":31,"title":13,"keywords":32,"description":14,"schema_data":33,"social_meta":84,"head_meta":86,"extra_data":88,"updated_unix":26},"the-heron-traditional-behoa-story","",{"@graph":34,"@context":83},[35,52,66],{"@type":36,"itemListElement":37},"BreadcrumbList",[38,42,46,49],{"item":39,"name":40,"@type":41,"position":11},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":43,"name":44,"@type":41,"position":45},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":47,"name":12,"@type":41,"position":48},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/story-novel/",3,{"item":50,"name":13,"@type":41,"position":51},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/the-heron-traditional-behoa-story/92294/",4,{"url":50,"name":13,"@type":53,"author":54,"headline":13,"publisher":56,"fileFormat":59,"inLanguage":22,"description":14,"dateModified":60,"datePublished":60,"encodingFormat":59,"isAccessibleForFree":61,"interactionStatistic":62},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":55},"Person",{"url":39,"name":57,"@type":58},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-07-17",true,{"@type":63,"interactionType":64,"userInteractionCount":4},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":65},"ViewAction",{"@type":67,"mainEntity":68},"FAQPage",[69,75,79],{"name":70,"@type":71,"acceptedAnswer":72},"What is the main plot of \"The Heron\"?","Question",{"text":73,"@type":74},"The story is about a young man who rescues an injured heron and, upon returning home, finds a beautiful woman who asks to be his wife.","Answer",{"name":76,"@type":71,"acceptedAnswer":77},"Who are the main contributors to this story?",{"text":78,"@type":74},"Santiaji Malonta retold the traditional Behoa story, and Fred Adlao provided the illustrations.",{"name":80,"@type":71,"acceptedAnswer":81},"What are the copyright and usage terms for this work?",{"text":82,"@type":74},"The work is copyrighted by SIL International in 2003 and can be adapted and used for non-commercial purposes, provided the copyright and credits are maintained.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":50,"og:type":85,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":57,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":87,"canonical":50},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":23},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":90},[91,94,98,102,107,112,117,122,127,130,134],{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":92,"slug":93},90,"story-novel",{"id":45,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":95,"show_sort_weight":96,"slug":97},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":51,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":99,"show_sort_weight":100,"slug":101},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":103,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":104,"show_sort_weight":105,"slug":106},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":108,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":109,"show_sort_weight":110,"slug":111},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":113,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":114,"show_sort_weight":115,"slug":116},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":118,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":119,"show_sort_weight":120,"slug":121},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":123,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":124,"show_sort_weight":125,"slug":126},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":125,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":128,"show_sort_weight":125,"slug":129},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":131,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":132,"show_sort_weight":131,"slug":133},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":135,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":136,"show_sort_weight":103,"slug":137},19,"General","general"]
