In those days, with no air or light pollution, the sky must have been a marvelous sight. How much more marvelous it is to us who can see the far reaches of the universe though the “eyes” of the James Webb Space Telescope!  \nThe James Webb Space Telescope is the world’s premier infrared space observatory. It orbits the earth far beyond Earth’s moon. It has sensitive instruments that detect infrared radiation from planets, exoplanets, stars, nebulae, and galaxies. The observations it makes help us to better understand the early universe, how galaxies and stars change over time, and the characteristics of other worlds.  \nBut the James Webb Telescope doesn't just expand our understanding. It also stirs our souls. We can now see images that our ancestors could not even imagine. People of faith now have even more reason to praise the Creator of the universe as we see in such detail objects in the sky at the farthest reaches of His creation.  \nThe images and descriptions in this book are provided courtesy of NASA and the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) . The image shows a galaxy cluster made up of thousands of galaxies. This image includes the faintest objects ever observed, seen here for the ̊rst time.  \nThis image shows the stars, gas, and dust that make up the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex. This star-forming region is the closest one to Earth. There are 50 young stars in this scene. They are all the size of our Sun or smaller.  \nThis landscape of “mountains” and “valleys” speckled with glittering stars is actually the edge of a nearby, young, star-forming region in the Carina Nebula. Called the Cosmic Cli̜s, it looks like craggy mountains on a moonlit evening but is actually the edge of the giant, gaseous cavity in the nebula.  \nThis star-forming region gives insight into the beginnings of a new star. You can see this “protostar”as a dark line within the “neck” of the hourglass shape. Light from the protostar shines above and below the line. This dark cloud is known as L1527 .  \nThis group of galaxies is called “Stephen's Quintet”. The image is made of up almost 1,000 separate image ̊les. There are sparkling clusters of millions of young stars and starburst regions of fresh star birth.  \nThis planetary nebula is known as the Southern Ring Nebula. It is made up of clouds of gas and dust expelled by dying stars. The dimmer star at the center is cloaked in dust and has been sending out rings of gas and dust in all directions for thousands of years.  \nThis pair of galaxies is called “The Penguin and the Egg”. The two galaxies are being pulled by each other's gravity. They have taken on a shape that looks like a penguin diligently watching over its egg. This formation is about 100,000 light years across and is 326 million light years away from us.  \nThe galaxy that looks like a penguin is younger and is packed with gas, dust, and young, forming stars. The one that looks like an egg is an older galaxy and doesn't have as mch dust and gas to form stars with.  \nJupiter, the giant of our solar system, is the ̊fth planet from the Sun. It has more than twice the mass of all the other planets in our solar system combined. Composed mainly of hydrogen and helium, this gas giant’s dynamic atmosphere features auroras (at the poles in red), hazes (in green), distinct bands,
