I’m sure they are mostly lovely people, but I have my limits on what I’ll put up with. \nThe Call of Cthulhu is a RPG published by Chaosium for the last 30+ years, currently in its 7th Edition. What follows is a simplified version of those rules. Since all 7 editions have been backwards compatible, Call of Cthulhu has not been cleaned up and streamlined over time the way other games tend to be. This hack is an attempt to do that cleanup and streamlining. If you’ve already played CoC, then the following bullet points might be helpful. If not, don’t worry, read on. \nSimilar to 7th Edition Call of Cthulhu \n❖ D100 rolls, and calculating hard (50%) and critical (10% skill + 10% Luck) successes \n❖ Hit points and magic points are both still limited ❖ Combat is still lethal \n❖ You can spend Luck to modify a roll, or roll against Luck itself ❖ Temporary and indefinite bouts of insanity \n❖ Slow healing \n❖ Skills advance when you use them \nMissing from the Call of Cthulhu You’re Used To \n❖ No Listen or Spot Hidden skill, or perception skills at all. Clues are there to be found, but in a game where looking away is a good idea, you have to say where you look \n❖ Players roll almost all the dice \n❖ Constitution, Size and Strength have been combined into Fortitude for simplicity \n❖ Intelligence and Education are combined into Education-the player’s intelligence is what will be challenged ❖ Appearance and Power have been combined into Psyche, representing both strength of personality and \nwillpower \n❖ Players roll 2d4 to increase skills when they have rolled both a success and a failure; the Keeper can apply a \nmercy rule and also allow an increase after three failures ❖ Attributes count as defaults for skill rolls \n❖ Instead of taking Sanity damage, Stress dice accumulate to be rolled against Sanity during a crisis or breaking point \n❖ Pushing a roll, or rolling a second time, imposes d3 Stress each time, as well as increasing the risk if the pushed roll fails \n❖ Weapons are simplified into broad categories to make reference and on-the-fly decisions easier (no long weapon lists) \nBasic Rules \nRolls to determine whether a character succeeds or fails are always percentage rolls-roll a d10 for the tens digit and d10 for the ones digit and compare the total to the target number, which is most often the character’sattribute or skill. If the roll is equal to or less than the target, the roll is a success. If the roll is equal to or less than half the target, it is a , and if the roll is equal to or less than 10% of the target and 10% of the character’s current Luck, it is a . \nA hard success with a weapon attack deals double damage, and a critical success with a weapon attack deals full damage plus rolled damage-so a d8 weapon would deal 2d8 with a hard success and d8+8 with a critical success. \nWhen you roll with advantage, you roll twice and take the better result. When you roll with disadvantage, you roll twice and take the worse result. \nIf you fail a roll by 50 or more over your skill, that is a critical failure, and 95-100 is a critical failure unless your skill is 95 or higher. 99-100 is always a critical failure. So if your skill is only 25, then over 75 is a critical failure. If your skill is 75, 95 or over is still a critical failure. If your skill is 100, a 99 or 100 are still critical failures. (Skills can eventually go over 100 but Credit Rating and Sanity cannot) \nAttributes \nWhen you don’t have a skill, you roll your attribute as a default. So, for example, if your character is trying to do some research in a library but has no Research skill, she would just roll their Education instead. When you gain skills, they build on your attribute, so that a character wi","cbCaijd5QSGbhHlC","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijd5QSGbhHlC","pdf",939404,23,"English","# Similar to 7th Edition Call of Cthulhu\n## Missing from the Call of Cthulhu You’re Used To\n# Basic Rules\n## Rolls and success thresholds\n## Advantage and disadvantage\n## Critical failure rules\n# Attributes\n## Default attribute rolls\n## Attribute definitions\n# Skills\n## Character sheet default skills\n## Skill advancement","[{\"question\":\"What core dice system does this hack use for success and failure?\",\"answer\":\"It uses percentage rolls: roll two d10 digits, add them, and compare the total to the target number; success is equal to or less than the target, with success grades based on how far under the target the roll is.\"},{\"question\":\"How are hard and critical successes handled for weapon attacks?\",\"answer\":\"A hard success with a weapon attack deals double damage, while a critical success deals full damage plus rolled damage details, demonstrated with the example d8 weapon outcomes.\"},{\"question\":\"What major changes does the hack make compared with the standard Call of Cthulhu skills and attributes?\",\"answer\":\"It removes certain perception skills like Listen/Spot Hidden, combines Constitution/Size/Strength into Fortitude, merges Intelligence/Education into Education, merges Appearance/Power into Psyche, and replaces Sanity damage with Stress dice accumulated for later crisis rolls.\"}]","The Hack of Cthulhu - 0.3 - Simplified RPG Rules | PDF",1791305225,35]
