That’s where the Apple Management Experts can help. Since 2002, JAMF Software—and our Casper Suite solution—have helped thousands of schools across the globe ensure their Apple programs are a success. \nThis guide highlights the steps needed to get a Mac program up and running — using the Casper Suite and Apple’s userfriendly deployment programs. \nFollow these 5 steps to success . \nPrepare \nConfigure \nPurchase \nDeploy \nApps & Books \n Step1 Prepare \n1. Sign up for Apple’s Device Enrollment \nProgram (DEP) and Volume Purchase Program (VPP) \n› Enroll your school at [deploy.apple.com](deploy.apple.com) . \n› Get your Apple Customer Number from Apple or your Reseller — this is required for DEP. \n› Use a shared email address for your Apple ID (ex: [appleid@school.org](appleid@school.org)) . \n› Define who has access to the DEP portal page via Admin setting within the DEP site . \n2. Consider your Apple ID strategy \n› With OS X 10.11 and later, you can choose to \ndeploy apps to either users’ Apple IDs or directly to a device . Choose whether or not to use Apple IDs based on your app deployment preference . \n› For shared or device-based deployments (such as computer labs), an individual Apple ID is not necessary. \n› For 1:1 or user-based deployments, an individual Apple ID per user is recommended. \n› Apple IDs require an email address, so consider using a student’s school or personal email. \n› Students over 13 can create a new Apple ID during the setup of the Mac or here . \n› For Students under 13, sign up for Apple’s Under 13 Apple ID program and follow the instructions . \n3. Ensure stable Wi-Fi and networking \n› Strong Wi-Fi and modern networking are critical for a successful deployment. Make sure your school has enough bandwidth and wireless routers to handle all your new devices . \n› The Casper Suite needs to communicate \nto your devices over the network for management. \n› You will need to select how you plan to host the Casper Suite on your network. \n4. Link Casper Suite to DEP \n› Add the Casper Suite as your MDM server via “Manage Servers” on the DEP site . \n› You will need to download a public key \nfrom the JSS and a Server Token from the DEP site. Details on this setup can be found here. \n› Once linked, you can assign new devices \nto be managed by serial or order number on the DEP site . \nWhat is the Casper Suite? \n› The Casper Suite is a collection of Mac and iOS management tools. \n› The core of the suite is the JAMF \nSoftware Server (JSS) that acts just like a web server. \n› The JSS can be hosted on any existing OS X, Windows, or Linux server on-premise. \n› JSS hosting is also offered via JAMF Cloud subscription. \nStep2 Configure \n1. Customize your Macs with Profiles and Policies \nConfiguration Profiles: An XML file that acts like a recipe for device settings: \n› Build your profile ingredients with settings such as: Wi-Fi, Email, and VPN. \nPolicies: A more advanced method to configure OS X by talking directly to the OS and excusing commands such as: \n› Managing software updates, setting up printers, and enabling File Vault 2 disk encryption . \nBoth Profiles and Policies are built and deployed within the JSS. \n› Both can contain security settings and restrictions for your Macs . \n› Consider building different policies and profiles for different groups of students . \n2. Configure the Casper Suite for Initial Setup Options \nJSS \n3. Plan how to prepare your Macs. \nThe Casper Suite has the ability to prepare Macs, just like other tools \nfor PCs. \n› With zero-touch, user-driven provisioning, organizations can leverage DEP to automatically enroll Macs to the Casper Suite, which triggers policies and profiles to install apps and configure settings . \nUser-driven provisioning is the ideal method to prepare Macs . \n› If your organization doesn’t ha","cbCairZdtSpGDo5R","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairZdtSpGDo5R","pdf",651706,"English","# Step 1 Prepare\n## Sign up for Apple Device Enrollment (DEP) and Volume Purchase Program (VPP)\n## Consider your Apple ID strategy\n## Ensure stable Wi‑Fi and networking\n## Link Casper Suite to DEP\n# Step 2 Configure\n## Customize Macs with Profiles and Policies\n## Configure Casper Suite for initial setup options\n## Plan how to prepare Macs (zero-touch and assisted provisioning)\n## Recon for existing unmanaged Macs\n# Step 3 Purchase Apps & Books\n## Purchase Mac App Store apps and books using VPP\n## Assign apps using device-based and user-based VPP","[{\"question\":\"What is DEP and why does it matter for deploying Macs in education?\",\"answer\":\"DEP (Device Enrollment Program) enrolls school devices so they can be automatically managed.
