Their long-standing agreement with humans had been broken, as humans were overfishing, disrupting the ocean's ecosystem. The council, comprising various marine species from whales and lobsters to lesser-known creatures like jellyfish, met to discuss solutions. Initial suggestions included the whale singing to awaken weeds, the lobster learning to regrow body parts, and the octopus offering to \"paint the sea blue.\" However, these ideas were deemed insufficient. The turning point came when Mrs. Jiggly, an elderly and wise jellyfish, shared a solution employed by her ancestors. She proposed a coordinated swimming pattern among the fish, creating an upwelling effect that would bring nutrient-rich cold water from the depths to the surface, thus revitalizing their food sources. The story concludes with the fish implementing this strategy, with smaller fish swimming up and down to facilitate the process and larger fish pushing warmer surface water deeper. The narrative emphasizes collaboration and the wisdom found in tradition to overcome environmental challenges and restore balance to the marine environment, highlighting the consequences of human overexploitation and the resilience of nature when unified.","The Great Council of Fish Shailesh Lal Honson Chan \nOnce upon a time, the sea creatures had trouble finding food. Their longtime friends, the Humans, were not helping. \nThey were taking more from the sea than agreed to. \nLife in the sea was not the same . \nThe Great Council of Fish had to meet. This was no small matter. The tiny plankton were not friends with the zooplankton. Zooplankton feared the fish. The corals were crabby about the parrotfish breaking them. Other fish were upset about how violent the sharks had become. They all complained about the Humans. \nAll the Council members arrived on time. \nExcept for the seahorses, of course . They needed the dolphins to bring them over . The meeting started and everyone discussed what could be done. \nThey all wanted every fish to be well fed again. \n“Let me sing to awaken the weeds,”suggested the whale. \n“Why not learn how to regrow our body parts,” screeched the lobster. \n“Hang on . I can do you all a favour,” bragged the octopus. \n“I can paint the sea blue again.”But these ideas would not solve their problem. \n5 \nFinally, old Mrs Jiggly the Jellyfish spoke from the back. \nShe was the longest serving member of the council. \nShe was as wise as she was old. \nShe always seemed to have an answer to their biggest problems. Everyone listened politely to her shaky voice. \n“My distant cousins once faced a similar problem,” she said. \n“They solved it by getting the fish together.“They made the fish all swim in a special up and down cycle. \n“That made the cold water at the bottom swirl up to the top. \n“This upwelling carried the goodies the fish most enjoyed.” \n8 \nSo all the fish got together according to their size. \nThe smaller fish started swimming from top to bottom. \nAnd back to the top again. \nBigger fish pushed the warm water deeper into the sea .","cbCaicEm6f1nivqH","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaicEm6f1nivqH","pdf",3596010,3,15,"English","en",105,"# The Great Council of Fish\n## A Meeting is Called\n## Challenges and Solutions\n## The Jellyfish's Wisdom\n## The Plan in Action","[{\"question\":\"What was the main problem faced by the sea creatures?\",\"answer\":\"The sea creatures were experiencing a severe food shortage because humans were taking more from the sea than what was agreed upon, disrupting the natural balance and availability of food.\"},{\"question\":\"What were some of the initial ideas suggested at the Great Council of Fish meeting?\",\"answer\":\"The initial suggestions included the whale singing to awaken weeds, the lobster learning how to regrow body parts, and the octopus offering to paint the sea blue again.
