This paper examines the formation of feminine identity in the novel through two major sections: first, the psychological and social dimensions of Jane's identity formation across the key stages of her life, from Gateshead to Thornfield; and second, the ideological and literary frameworks through which Brontë encodes female resistance, including the use of the double motif through Bertha Mason, the language of spiritual equality, and the proto-feminist assertion of selfhood. Drawing on a wide range of feminist literary scholars, psychoanalytic theorists, and Victorian cultural critics, this paper argues that Jane Eyre is not merely a romance but a carefully constructed narrative of feminine becoming, a Bildungsroman that refuses to subordinate the female self to patriarchal structures. The paper further contends that Brontë's portrayal of Jane anticipates the core concerns of first-wave feminism and continues to resonate in contemporary critical discourse about gender, autonomy, and identity.\nKeywords: Jane Eyre, femi","cbCaijYCqwSABBpC","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijYCqwSABBpC","docx",94810,1,34,"English","en",105,"# Chapter One\n## Introduction\n## Feminine Identity Formation and Social Ideology","[{\"question\":\"How does the paper characterize Brontë’s portrayal of Jane in relation to feminism?\",\"answer\":\"The paper argues that Jane Eyre is more than romance: it is a constructed narrative of feminine becoming that challenges patriarchal subordination and aligns with concerns central to first-wave feminism.\"}]",1783809050,52,{"code":4,"msg":30,"data":31},"ok",{"site_id":24,"language":23,"slug":32,"title":13,"keywords":33,"description":14,"schema_data":34,"social_meta":76,"head_meta":78,"extra_data":80,"updated_unix":27},"the-formation-of-feminine-identity-in-charlotte-bronte-jane-eyre","",{"@graph":35,"@context":75},[36,52,66],{"@type":37,"itemListElement":38},"BreadcrumbList",[39,43,46,49],{"item":40,"name":41,"@type":42,"position":20},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":44,"name":45,"@type":42,"position":11},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",{"item":47,"name":12,"@type":42,"position":48},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/literature/",3,{"item":50,"name":13,"@type":42,"position":51},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/the-formation-of-feminine-identity-in-charlotte-bronte-jane-eyre/56296/",4,{"url":50,"name":13,"@type":53,"author":54,"headline":13,"publisher":56,"fileFormat":59,"inLanguage":23,"description":14,"dateModified":60,"datePublished":60,"encodingFormat":59,"isAccessibleForFree":61,"interactionStatistic":62},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":55},"Person",{"url":40,"name":57,"@type":58},"DocShare","Organization","application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document","2026-07-11",true,{"@type":63,"interactionType":64,"userInteractionCount":4},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":65},"ViewAction",{"@type":67,"mainEntity":68},"FAQPage",[69],{"name":70,"@type":71,"acceptedAnswer":72},"How does the paper characterize Brontë’s portrayal of Jane in relation to feminism?","Question",{"text":73,"@type":74},"The paper argues that Jane Eyre is more than romance: it is a constructed narrative of feminine becoming that challenges patriarchal subordination and aligns with concerns central to first-wave feminism.","Answer","https://schema.org",{"og:url":50,"og:type":77,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":57,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":79,"canonical":50},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":24},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":82},[83,87,90,94,99,104,109,114,119,122,126],{"id":20,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":84,"show_sort_weight":85,"slug":86},"Story & Novel",90,"story-novel",{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":88,"slug":89},80,"literature",{"id":51,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":91,"show_sort_weight":92,"slug":93},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":95,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":96,"show_sort_weight":97,"slug":98},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":100,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":101,"show_sort_weight":102,"slug":103},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":105,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":106,"show_sort_weight":107,"slug":108},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":110,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":111,"show_sort_weight":112,"slug":113},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":115,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":116,"show_sort_weight":117,"slug":118},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":117,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":120,"show_sort_weight":117,"slug":121},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":123,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":124,"show_sort_weight":123,"slug":125},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":127,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":128,"show_sort_weight":95,"slug":129},19,"General","general"]
