FATHER's RoLE \nDr.Curtis Hutson \nTHE FATHER's RoLE \nByDr.Curtis Hutson \nCopyright 2005 bySword of the Lord PublishersISBN 0-87398-293-2 \nAll Scripture quotations are fromthe King James Bible. \nPrinted and Bound in the United States of America \n# The Father's Role\n\nJohn Wycliffe,a preacher of yesteryear, was asked,\"How mustmen preach?\"His answer was,\"Appropriately,simply,directly andfrom a devout and sincere heart.\" \nI think the message this morning is very appropriate;it isdesigned for fathers, the men who are here.I hope you will listenvery carefully. \n“And ifit seem evil unto you to serve the LORD,choose you this daywhom ye will serve;whether the gods which your fathers served thatwere on the other side of the flood,or the gods of the Amorites,in whoseland ye dvwell:but as for me and my house,we will serve the LORD.\"一Josh.24:15. \nThis is an Old Testament story in the Book of Joshua whereJoshua makes a decision, then makes an announcement.First, hedecides that he is going to serve the Lord.He makes the decisionfor everybody in his family—his wife and his children.I wouldlike to think that it reached further than his immediate family.Second,he made an announcement. He said,“As for me and myhouse,we will serve the LORD.”That is a big statement. \nI read the story of a man who had a little plaque hung in hishome with this expression on it,\"As for me and my house,we willserve the LORD.\"And he was very successful in leading his entirefamily to serve the Lord—with one exception. That was a son \nnamed Henry. He could never get Henry to serve the Lord.Hisdaughters served the Lord, his other sons served the Lord, hiswife served the Lord, but Henry would have nothing to do withChrist or religion. \nThe father wept and prayed much about it. \nYears went by,and one day while sitting in a room looking atthe plaque,\"As for me and my house,we will serve the LORD,\"hesaid,“Lord,I meant that when I hung it on the wall.I've done mybest to get my family to serve the Lord, but I haven't succeededwith Henry. And I cannot go on proclaiming the lie any longer. My house is not serving the Lord.I must change the plaque ortake it down.\"He didn’t want to take it down, because most of themembers of the family were serving the Lord.So he took a pen-cil and added two words:“As for me and my house,we will servethe LORD—except Henry.” \nHenry came in a few days later and saw it.\"Daddy,\"he said,“what do you mean—except Henry?Don't you want me to servethe Lord?” \n“Yes,Henry,\"said the father,“I want you to serve the Lord. But I have begged you to accept Christ.I have prayed for you.Youwon't go to church nor have anything to do with Christ or reli-gion.So I couldn’t have that lie on the wall any longer. It will haveto read like it is if it stays on the wall.” \nHenry's heart was broken, and he trusted Christ as Saviour. His father then erased the words \"except Henry,\"and the plaquestayed. \n# God Expects Men to Lead\n\nI don't want to be too hard on the men,but God expects youto take the lead.Never anywhere in the Bible does God indicatethat women are to lead. \nIt wasn’t Mrs.Joshua who said,“As for me and my house, wewill serve the Lord.I'll make old Joshua walk the chalk line.Hewill do right.\"No,it was Joshua who said,“But as for me and myhouse,we will serve the LORD.” \nIfI could somehow lead the men in this church to say with allsincerity,\"'As for me and my house,we will serve the LORD’;I'llsee to it that my house loves God and serves the Lord,\"it wouldbe a step toward bringing genuine revival to America. \nThe family is the oldest institution in the world, older than thechurch, older than the state—and in many cases, more importantthan both the church and the state, because church and state aremade up of families. If the home is not right, neither will thechurch and the state be right. \nIt is very important then that the home be right. As goesthe home,so goes the church;and as goes the church,so goesthe nation. If the home is to be right, then the man must be itscenter.","cbCairqNpbZp881W","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairqNpbZp881W","pdf",852973,28,"English","# The Father's Role\n## John Wycliffe’s guidance on preaching\n## Joshua’s decision and family
