scraping the edge of the nightsky with my pinkie nail, peeking, turning my nose upwards, searching for the smell of creatures never to be seen.I amamongst them;I,living the life of another. \nThe fabulous dead are like dust. They sneak intoeverything. And the more you dust, the more they spread andmerge with each other and change shapes and cover everythingand creep inside your nostrils and then into your lungs andthen into your blood, under your skin, until all mirrors reflectonly their faces. \nThe fabulous dead speak incessantly but have novoice. After all, that's what death is—something articulatedin the void.A rather unremarkable repetition.A momentescaping, behind a turned back.An abrupt emptiness.Theirmouths are dry and their skin is numb. They don't kiss, theydon't caress. They just speak to me incessantly and I see their \nlips move with emphatic indolence. \nIn Rumours Motel tonight,I am dressed as askyscraper queen.Yesterday I was a blasphemous astronomer, the day after tomorrow I'll be a sweet-voiced chimney-sweep,last week I was a loquacious taxi driver,a suicidal author,akind-hearted whore, and next month I'll be a melancholyhousewife,a corrupt bishop,an autistic superhero. It is sucha relief, not being obliged to live your own life, simply lettingyourself rely on someone else's choices.I feelso carefree whenI spend the night here,a puppet in the hands of someone
