Patients with closed intertrochanteric or subtrochanteric femur fractures undergoing intramedullary nailing (n=100) received 1 g IV TXA or saline. Postoperative transfusion rates were lower with TXA (17.5% vs 36.7%), and total blood loss decreased (mean difference 367 mL, P=.01). No significant differences were found for intraoperative blood loss, length of stay, 30-day mortality, or major complications.
