It was conducted with 60 nursing students enrolled at a state university. Students in the intervention group (n = 30) listened to music during the skill training. Students in the control group (n = 30) received standard skill training. \nResults: There was no significant difference between groups in terms of peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) placement ability. It was observed that the anxiety score of the group that listened to music decreased, self-confidence score increased, respiratory rate decreased, and blood pressure increased. \nConclusion: It was found that music listened to students practicing PIVC placement had no effect on skill acquisition, decreased anxiety, increased selfconfidence, decreased respiratory rate, and increased systolic-diastolic blood pressure. \n[ClinicalTrials.gov](ClinicalTrials.gov) (Ref. No: NCT05867277) \nKeywords: Anxiety, intravenous catheter, music, nursing students \nIntroduction \nPeripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) insertion is the most commonly performed procedure by healthcare professionals in healthcare institutions.1 A PIVC catheter is a short, flexible tube inserted into a peripheral vein to administer fluid, medication, or blood. Although this procedure is frequently used, it causes many complications in patients. For the safe administration of PIVC, it is essential that nurses possess the necessary knowledge and skills.2 \nSkill training in nursing education first begins in professional skills laboratories. Professional skills laboratories have the effect of improving psychomotor skills through repetitive practice and reducing students’ excitement of the first experience.3 During laboratory training, students have the opportunity to develop their skills on models to prepare for clinical \npractice.4Teaching PIVC placement is one of the most challenging skills both in laboratory settings and during clinical internships.1 The PIVC placement procedure causes stress and anxiety in students due to the multitude of application steps, difficulties in transferring theory to practice, fear of failure, and the traumatic effect it creates on the patient.5,6 One of the most important problems caused by anxiety is learning difficulties. Although mild anxiety has positive effects on learning, learning problems increase as the level of anxiety increases.7,8,9 To enhance nursing students’ practical skills during their education, methods such as aromatherapy, guided imagery, progressive relaxation, and music are recommended.10,11 Music is the art of expressing one’s feelings, and music therapy is the professional use of the therapeutic effect of music to increase the well-being and quality of life of individuals in various physical, psychological, and social areas.12 The literature indicates that listening \nCorresponding author: \nFatma Yener Özcan, E-mail: [fyener@erbakan.edu.tr](fyener@erbakan.edu.tr) \nReceived: October 2, 2025 \nRevision Requested: October 14, 2025 Last Revision Received: October 24, 2025 \nAccepted: November 3, 2025 Publication Date November 19, 2025 \nCite this article as: Su S, Ceylan B, Yene","cbCairFbwxGBxtM0","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairFbwxGBxtM0","pdf",1226179,"English","# Abstract\n# Introduction\n## Peripheral intravenous catheter insertion\n## Nursing skill training and anxiety\n## Music therapy rationale\n# Research Hypotheses\n# Methods\n## Study Design and Setting\n## Intervention and Control Groups","[{\"question\":\"Does listening to music improve nursing students’ peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) placement skills?\",\"answer\":\"No significant difference was found between the music and control groups in PIVC placement ability.\"},{\"question\":\"How did music listening affect anxiety and self-confidence in nursing students?\",\"answer\":\"Anxiety scores decreased, while self-confidence scores increased in the group that listened to music during skill training.\"},{\"question\":\"What changes occurred in vital signs after music listening?\",\"answer\":\"Respiratory rate decreased, and systolic-diastolic blood pressure increased in the intervention group compared with control.\"}]","The Effect of Music on Peripheral Intravenous Catheter Placement Skills, Anxiety, Self-Confidence Perception, and Vital Signs in Nursing Students - Randomized-Controlled Trial | PDF",1789466143,15]
