Larger parties or higher level characters will still find challenges within these pages, especially if the number of monsters and their maximum hit points are increased. Depending on the \ndecisions of the Dungeon Master and their players, a single game session of 3-4 hours could see the conclusion of this story or just the halfway point. \nLocation. The Woodcutter's Camp, the Heartwood Tree, and the other locations here can easily be placed in any convenient forest in your game's world. If playing in The Forgotten Realms, Neverwinter Wood near Phandalin or The High Forest near Secomber are excellent settings. \nFurther resources. Using this with Verdigris Table Forest Encounters Volume 1 can fill this story with discoveries and side quests, creating a more open world sandbox feel for the players. Using the companion grasslands for the journey between the starting town and the forest will add even more adventure and complexity to a campaign, fueling many sessions of play and several levels of advancement. \nDesign Notes \nThis adventure has been designed to support all 3 pillars of play, putting the exploration and particularly the social sides of the game on equal footing with combat. Spells and abilities that never see use in a fight might help to navigate this forest or a difficult conversation. The party is free to seek out the locations here in any order. Each faction and nonplayer character represents a potential foe, a neutral force, or a new ally. Even the encounters with blights, where circumstances make violent confrontation the most likely outcome, could be resolved in different ways by creative decisions. \nThe goal is not to enforce a certain style of gameplay, but to provide options and meaningful player choices. Our heroes could certianly hack and slash a trail of destruction through this forest. Diplomacy and deception are also equally valid approaches; they could pit one side against another or march into the conclusion leading an army of allies. They could quickly find their way to the ending or wander these woods for days. \nA good Dungeon Masters adapts to create the best story and the most fun based on player's preferences and decisions. And a good adventure designer keeps in mind that the DM is also a player, whose fun is equally valuable. You are in a unique position to guide this story, and your choices will have a significant impact. Make this adventure your own. Take it all apart, put it back together and shape it to suit your game, your players, and your world. Be kind, have fun, and enjoy the ride. \nBackground \nPerhaps hearing of their success dealing with The Eyeless in the Dark, a half-orc woodcutter named Dramud approaches the party for help. While he and his team were working in the forest a pair of bugbears came and tried to chase them off, unleashing some form of magic that transformed plants into horrible monsters. He offers the party a bounty of 200 gp to end the blight and clear the way for work to resume. \nWhat Dramud does not mention is that the woodcutters were chopping down a rare and sacred Heartwood Tree when the bugbears tried to stop them. A buyer is paying very well for the magical wood from the tree and Dramud does not want that information widely known. What he does not know is that the Heartwood was home to a dryad named Æstahr. The pain and rage of having her tree chopped down drove her nearly maf, and in her fury it was the dryad who summoned the blights into the forest. Between her fey magics and the plant monsters' attacks many of the woodcutters have already been killed or driven out. The bugbears and the dryad's sisters are debating how best to return balance to the woods. \nWritten and Designed by \n\n| Ryan Doyle\u003Cbr>Cover Art by |\n| --- |\n| Enrique Meseguer from Pixabay\u003Cbr>Maps copyright |\n\nMichael LaBossiere , used with permission \nFor m","cbCaiqBHemgN8r2y","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqBHemgN8r2y","pdf",7958490,11,"English","# Design Notes\n## Background\n# Non Player Characters\n## The Woodcutters\n## The Bugbears","[{\"question\":\"What level and party size is this adventure designed for?\",\"answer\":\"It is designed for a party of four 2nd level characters, who should reach 3rd level by completing the adventure.\"},{\"question\":\"Where does the adventure take place?\",\"answer\":\"Key locations include the Woodcutter's Camp and the Heartwood Tree, with other forest locations placed as convenient for the game world.\"},{\"question\":\"Why does the blight start in the story?\",\"answer\":\"A pair of bugbears tried to stop woodcutters from chopping a sacred Heartwood Tree, and the dryad Æstahr’s rage helped summon blights into the forest.\"}]","The Dryad's Fury - Adventure for a Party of Four | PDF",1791250455,17]
