The Babylonians defeated Judah and took control of it. Three years later Jehoiakim broke away from Babylon’s rule.  \nThen Jehoiakim died and his son Jehoiachin became king at the age of eighteen. The Babylonian army attacked Jerusalem again and Jehoiachin surrendered after having been king of Judah for three months.  \nNebuchadnezzar’s soldiers took the treasures from God’s temple and the king’s palace. They also took Jehoiachin, his mother, his wives, 7,000 of the best soldiers and many officialsand skilled workers as prisoners to Babylon.  \nNebuchadnezzar made Zedekiah king in Jehoiachin's place. Nine years later, Nebuchadnezzar’s army attacked the city again when Zedekiah rebelled against Babylon.  \nEnemy soldiers surrounded Jerusalem for two years until there was nothing left to eat in the city.  \nFinally, the Babylonians broke through the city wall, but King Zedekiah and the army of Judah escaped.
