From the moment you wake up, you must avoid all solid foods and follow a clear liquid diet. You may only have light or clear-colored liquids (liquids that you can see through) and nothing that is red or purple in color. However, red or purple colored medications are ok to take the day before your procedure. \n\n| THE CLEAR LIQUID DIET: Liquids must be clear – nothing red or purple in color | |\n| --- | --- |\n| Water, Coconut Water, Vitamin Water® , Gatorade®, Kool-Aid®, Crystal-lite® | Soda and iced tea (regular or diet) |\n| Fruit juices without pulp – apple, white grape juice, strained lemonade (no orange juice) | Jell-O® gelatin without added fruit or toppings |\n| Clear broth or any flavor bouillon | Popsicles, ices , or sorbet (i.e. lemon, peach, or mango) |\n| Tea or coffee without milk, cream, or non-dairy creamer | Honey, sugar, and clear hard candies |\n| YOU MAY NOT HAVE smoothies, blended fruit, or vegetable drinks. You may not have any dairy products. This includes non-dairy products, such as almond milk, rice milk, or soy milk. If you cannot see through it, if it has pulp, or contains anything that you need to chew in order to swallow DO NOT DRINK IT! | |\n\n\n| 9 a.m. | Most people find the prep is easier to drink , if chilled. If you are using Trilyte, Golytely, Colyte, or MoviPrep , prepare and chill in the refrigerator (this is usually not needed for Prepopik or Suprep) . Mix by adding drinking water to the indicated line. Shake until the powder is mixed. You may use flavor packets , if you have received them . Some patients like to use lime or lemon. Chill the prep in the refrigerator. |\n| --- | --- |\n| 5-8 p.m. | Prepare the first dose of solution, if it is not prepared and chilled already. Take your first dose.\u003Cbr>Trilyte, Golytely, Colyte: Drink a large glass every 10-15 minutes , until half of the gallon jug is empty (2 liters) . It will take you 1½ to 2 hours. Refrigerate the rest of the prep for the second dose. MoviPrep, Prepopik, Suprep: Drink the first dose, and then drink the specified amount of clear liquids, as detailed in the package instructions. |\n| Bowel movements often begin about 1 hour after the first glass and may continue for 1-4 hours , after you finish the last glass. Consider using baby wipes or ointment to minimize anal irritation.\u003Cbr>Bloating, nausea, or chills are common after the first few glasses, and are temporary. If the nausea is severe, stop drinking for 30 minutes. Then, resume drinking and slow down, as needed. | |\n| BEFORE GOING TO BED: Make sure you know when you need to take your second dose. See the instructions for “Day of Your Procedure.” You may need to get up from sleep, if your colonoscopy appointment time is early in the morning. | |\n\nNursing staff will call you the day before your procedure (or the Friday before a Monday procedure) to confirm your arrival time and procedure start time. If you do not hear from us by 5 p. m . , you may call 650- 725-8117. After 6 p. m . , voicemail is available. If you leave a message, we will return your call early the next morning.","cbCaik1gAkADB9IF","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaik1gAkADB9IF","pdf",83184,"English","# Clear Liquid Diet Rules\n## What You May Drink\n## What You Must Avoid\n# Bowel Prep Timing and Doses\n## 9 a.m. Preparation\n## 5–8 p.m. First Dose\n## After First Dose and Side Effects\n## Before Bed\n# Confirming Arrival and Procedure Time","[{\"question\":\"What can I eat or drink the entire day before my procedure?\",\"answer\":\"You must follow a clear liquid diet and avoid all solid foods.
