Trees loomed around me, I was in a forest it seemed. It was dark, probably sometime after sunset, and it was strangely quiet.  \n“Too quiet to be in the middle of a forest,” I thought.  \nMy breath was unsteady, as if I had been running myself breathless orawoken from a nightmare, even though I was sitting against a tree trunk. It was cold and as I looked down at my small childlike body, I noticed that I was wrapped in a large black colored cloak.  \nI reached a hand up to my face, only to recoil at the sting and realized I had bruises and scratches all over me . Had I been running from something? Had I fallen over and passed out in the middle of the forest after playing? Why was I here and why couldn’t I remember anything before this?  \nAll of a sudden I saw a dim light that appeared in the distance and by instinct, I held my breath and tried to keep as still as I could in this freezing forest. The light became larger, slowly making its way towards me . Was there someone out looking for me? Was it good or bad to be found by this someone? The silhouette walking next to the lantern became clear and an older woman suddenly stopped in her tracks. She stared at me, eyes wide like she had seen a ghost, and I could feel her lingering stare at my ears .“What are you doing out here?“ she managed to whisper, eyes locked with mine now.  \nHer voice triggered something within me, as the feeling of something warm yet wet ran across my cheeks.  \nTears .  \nWhere was my home? Where did I belong? Why had I felt this huge sense of guilt inside of me?  \n“I…I don’t know,” I breathed raggedly along the words.  \nThe lady seemed to soften up a bit at that answer, still looking around in the forest, her eyes seemed to have been searching for something, was I not the one she had searched for then? She moved up slowly, and sat down on her knees in front of me, looking me up and down with the kindest brown eyes. She let out a small sigh with a faint smile as she held her hand out towards me .  \nI remembered that she helped me up on my feet, that she brushed all the dirt out of my white long hair and carefully put it behind my long pointy ears . She glanced at my cloak and the necklace I wore around my neck.  \n“Venyra,” she whispered, trying the name she found on my cloak and my heart stirred a little at the recognition of my name. At least I had something left.  \nThen she took my cold hand in her own warm ones, and brought me into her home and family.  \nI sat up in my bed, sweat dwelled on my back. Yet again I had that dream of the night when I woke up in Northail, a little village in Estrolas, all those years ago.
