Here in the east, we’ve just had the highest June temperatures recorded and we felt them. We really felt them. Those of us with livestock of any kind have been worried about how they would cope with the extreme heat (let no one write in and tell me this are not extreme!). I am so lucky to have super shady fields, one of which has a little copse in it. Not so happy to read avet on Facebook tell me that horses are not bright enough to go into the shade. Cue panic. So put some haylage under the trees and that worked so well – they seemed to spend more time sheltering after that even though they had eaten eaten it all.
