low, unbearable singingThrough my wisdom. \nI have given my lips to the earth,But I have never found her kisses. And in my comely prostrations,Her laughter was small bells ringing. \nShe has informed all my words with hallownessAnd she has invested my resolutions with bright ragsShe has attended the obsequies of her unhallowed hoursAnd she has been a dissonance in the encomiums of recall. \n(I_grew weary of her seraphic mockeryUntil,at last,I won her shadowWith loud and restless wooing.) \nBut now dust has become my dignityAnd shame my nobility \nBecause I have bartered my proud shouldersFor the whips of forgivenessAnd I have bent my headTo the blows of mercy. \nI have suffered my loud wounds to be healedAnd I have given my heart to be bruisedIn the ignominy of pardon. \nThen let no loneliness intrudeOn this companionable grief, \nFor her footprints are freshly-dug in my sorrowAnd I have caught her veil, lightly, for a momentIn my hands. \nMy pride has lost its innocenceTo her charms. \nPoor Clare Monastery ofOur Lady of Guadalupe,Roswell,New Mexico \nSr.Mary Francis,P.C. \n# OUR MONTHLY CONFERENCE\n\nOur Blessed Mother \nShortly before his joyful meeting with Sister Death,Saint Francis exhortedhis followers never to leave the little chapel of Saint Mary of the Angels, andhe expressed the desire to have his heart buried there as a token of his love forMary. From that time down to our own day, when the Church has granted usa special feast in honor of Mary,Queen of the Franciscan Order, every Fran-ciscan has considered it a high privilege and a sacred duty to honor the BlessedVirgin Mary. The beautiful prayer of the liturgy,\"Vouchsafe to let me praisethee,O holy Virgin,\"voices this traditional Franciscan attitude towards theglorious Mother of God.Hence,it is only proper that our conference duringthis month of May treat of her for whom the month is named—Mary. We shallconsider her under the appealing aspect of our Blessed Mother. \nIt is not hard to prove that Mary is our mother. This vital fact is based onher two Annunciations, the one at Nazareth, the other on Calvary. When theArchangel Gabriel announced to Mary in her little home at Nazareth that shewas chosen to become the Mother of God,he indicated unmistakably the specialcharacter of her Son by calling Him Jesus,a name which signified one who wouldsave his people from their sins(Mt.I,21).Her son, therefore,as the Savior ofthe world, was to possess the unique distinction of having two bodies,His
