Its chloroplast genome has a total length of 169,027 bp, comprising a large single-copy region of 94,617 bp, a small single-copy region of 22,544 bp, and two inverted repeat regions of 25,933 bp. The chloroplast genome consists of 132 RNA components, including 87 proteincoding genes, 37 transfer RNAs, and eight ribosomal RNAs. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that T. bipinnatifidum clusters closely with Aglaonema and Zantedeschia. These findings provide valuable data for assessing the genetic diversity, species identification, and evolution of T. bipinnatifidum. \nARTICLE HISTORY \nReceived 23 April 2025 Accepted 9 December 2025 \nKEYWORDS \nThaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum; chloroplast genome; phylogenetic analysis \n1. Introduction \nThaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum (Schott ex Endl.) Sakur., Calazans & Mayo was first described by Stephan Endlicher in 1837 (Endlicher 1837) and later reclassified into the genus Thaumatophyllum and renamed by Sakuragui et al. (2018) based on morphological and molecular systematic data. T. bipinnatifidum is a perennial, evergreen, herbaceous plant belonging to the family Araceae and the genus Thaumatophyllum. It typically grows to a height of 80–100 cm, with petioles 40–50 cm long. During the juvenile stage, young seedlings have triangular, thin, and leathery leaves with pinnatipartite (feather-like) divisions. Asthe plant matures, the leaves gradually expand, the number of pinnatipartite lobes increases significantly, and the depth of the lobes becomes more pronounced. T. bipinnatifidum produces unisexual flowers. The fleshy spikes are slightly shorter than the creamy-white spathe. Flowering occurs from April to June, and the seeds have red pericarps. Potted T. bipinnatifidum specimens rarely bloom under cultivation (Chen 2015). This species is native to South America. It prefers hot, humid environments, exhibits shade tolerance, and is sensitive to direct sunlight. With its unusual leaf shape, evergreen year-round growth habit, and attractive overall appearance, T. bipinnatifidum is primarily cultivated as an ornamental plant (Sun 2015). Typically, the chloroplast genome of a plant ranges from 140 to 160 kb in size and contains approximately 113 genes. These characteristics provide a distinct advantage in studies of plant classification and species-level phylogeny, making the chloroplast genome an \nimportant tool for research on plant taxonomy, evolution, heterologous production of secondary metabolites, and development of protein pharmaceuticals (Chen, Zhang, et al. 2024; Chen, Hua, et al. 2024; Fu et al. 2025). This study clarified the taxonomic affinities of T. bipinnatifidum with other Araceae taxa through phylogenetic analysis of its chloroplast genome and established a theoretical foundation for research on its physiology and genetic variation. \n2.
