\nThe big difference between conserva-tives and liberals is that conservativeswant the maximum amount of money to bespent by individuals rather than govern-ment.The liberals feel that practically allof our problems can be solved by morebureaucracy and more spending. \nThe women's liberation movement isworking for the Equal Rights Amendment, for government-financed abortion and forfederal childcare centers. Now,everybodyhas a right to work for whatever socialprograms you might like, but they con-ceived of how they can work on this proj-ect with the taxpayers'money. So theydevised a project called the Commissionon International Women's Year, the ideafrom the United Nations, and with BellaAbzug as their leader they went into Con-gress and asked Congress to give them $10million in order to promote their goals atthe taxpayers'expense. Now that reallywas ambitious.Congress had only giventhe Republican and Democratic con-ventions a million dollars, but the womenasked for $10million for their conventionsand conferences and then they com-promised at S5 million when there was op-position to this program. \n# “Why the Nation Needs Conservatives”—Schlafly\n\nTaxpayers Finance Promotion \nThey immediately at their first meetingstated the goal of pledging to do all in theircapacity to work for ratification of theEqua Rights Amendment with this com-mission and with this money nt the earliestpossible moment. They appointed no onebut pro-ERAers to the commission,to allthe staff and as speakers at all the stateand national conferences. \nNow,I submit that it would never occurto conservatives in the wide world to askthe taxpayers to finance us in an agency topromote our own special interest project. \nYou saw the same thing that was triedby Ralph Nader when they proposed theConsumer Protection Agencyearlier thisyear. That is the agency that was knownaround Washington as Nader's RaidersRetirement AgencyIt was a project to setup a consumer agency where all ofNader's friends would be able to get onthe government payroll and pursue theirgoals at the taxpayers'expenseSo fortu-nately,that was defeated by Congress ear-lier this year. \nTuition Tax Credit \nIn answer to the question why the na-tion needs conservatives.I would suggestthat the answer can be given in terms ofthe four Rs,and the first R is the one I justdescribed.A respect for other people'smoney. We are simply a group of peopleICaninued on next pagei \n\n| OFFICERS OF ","cbCaimYDIScJ5qHW","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaimYDIScJ5qHW","pdf",1856964,"English","# “HOW TO SAVE THE CENTRAL
