holy, and this templeyou are. \nI Cor.3:16-17 \n# YoUR EDITOR SAYS\n\nIt has been said \nthat the number one is very daring. The reason:oneis not only the first in a series of things;it is,byitself, the final thing. \nFor example.A man is born into the world onlyonce;so he had better do it well,or he may not everdo it at all. Then again, his whole life on earth is buta single life;so he must watch how he lives it,or hemay never live it down.Which is only to say that aman dies just as he lives:he merits either heaven orhell. \nThe number one, then,is decisive.Anything donebut once is best done perfectly,or it may be betterleft undone. Now,a certain amount of our religiouspractice is made up of these single episodes.Enter-ing the Church by baptism is a case in point. So isgetting married, and also taking vows of religion. So,too is our being confirmed by the bishop. \nIt is strange how confirmation,a great moment inlife,is shrouded too often in a cloud of mystery.Weare not referring to the necessary mystery that ispart and parcel of Catholic tradition, but the falsemystery that stems from a certain carelessness ofmind on our part.It is not that the\"sacrament ofChrism”is altogether beyond our understanding, butrather that we are not always too convinced it hasso much to say. \nThis is a sad spirituality!Let us brighten it up. \n# THE SOLDIER SACRAMENT\n\nPlacid Immegart,O.S.B. \nThe children knelt at the communion railing, dressedin white,as if still wearing their baptismal robe.Onthe epistle side knelt the boys, and the girls on thegospel side. Before the altar stood a venerable bishop, flanked by priests and servers.Standing there, vestedin cope and mitre,he looked like one of the holyapostles. \nThe mitre was removed and the bishop faced thekneeling children and began to pray that the HolySpirit would come down upon these little ones of Christand guard them from sin. Then, signing himself withthe sign of the Cross, the bishop asked God's help.Next he stretched his arms out over the kneelingchildren and prayed that God,who had baptized themand had forgiven them all their sins, would send hisSpirit with his seven gifts of wisdom and understand-ing,counsel and fortitude, knowledge and piety andfear of the Lord, and seal them with the sign of theCross for eternal life.To ask that the Spirit of Godwhich fills the universe would come and dwell in theselittle bodies of restive boys and shy little girls!Onlya boldness based on the words of Christ would dreamof asking such a thing! \nThe venerable bishop put on his mitre and took hispastoral staff in his left hand.Meanwhile the sponsors, men and women, took their places behind the","cbCailPF16FSdsdy","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCailPF16FSdsdy","pdf",1027317,36,"English","# The
