In this technical brief, we view common security concerns addressed by Sarbanes-Oxley and preferred control\u003Cbr>frameworks such as CoBit and ITIL. While not all organizations are governed by these laws and regulations, the Casper Suite provides a comprehensive set of tools to ensure that your security policies are followed and enforced. |\n| --- |\n| Terms used in this document: |\n\nAutomated controls \nAccess controls \nControl Objectives \nCorrective Controls \nDetective Controls \nPreventative Controls \nControl Objective \nare performed by computers and binary in nature; they always function as designed and are not subject to intermittent error or human intervention. \ndefine the appropriate access for different users and grant them rights and privileges to sensitive information. \ndefine the desired state and are used to measure the success or failure of a policy or procedure. \nare aimed at restoring the system to its expected state. \ndetect when an unwanted event occurs as a result of human factors as well as environmental and security issues; we need detective controls to alert us when an unwanted event transpires. \nare aimed at avoiding unwanted situations. \nis to provide a secure and stable IT environment that ensures corporate policies are applied consistently and accurately. \n%$%% KUg\\]b[hcb 5jY\" G\" 􀀗')$ A]bbYUdc`]g AB ))(%) IG5 \nA]bbYUdc`]g 9ifcdY \n􀀜*%&􀀝 *$)!**&)$&$ +--' ,'*( \nkkk\"^UaZgcZhkUfY\"Wca ]bZc4^UaZgcZhkUfY\"Wca \nThe Casper Suite and Security \nRole Based Administrator Access \nControl Objective: \n• Grant the appropriate level of access in order to provide administrators functionality appropriate to their role. \n• Log the actions of each individual administrator. \nWithin the Casper Suite, individuals can be added to the system to perform the tasks for which they are responsible (see fig. 1) . \nfig. 1 \n%$%% KUg\\]b[hcb 5jY\" G\" 􀀗')$ A]bbYUdc`]g AB ))(%) IG5 \nA]bbYUdc`]g 9ifcdY \n􀀜*%&􀀝 *$)!**&)$&$ +--' ,'*( \nkkk\"^UaZgcZhkUfY\"Wca ]bZc4^UaZgcZhkUfY\"Wca \nThe Casper Suite and Security \nfig. 2 \nThese users can be added via LDAP and assigned appropriate privileges (see fig. 2) . \nWhen an individual administrator logs into any of the Casper applications, their actions are logged in the database. Creating users and assigning their rights falls under Access Control; the logging of events allows for a Procedure that audits the veracity of the Control. \nfig. 3 \n%$%% KUg\\]b[hcb 5jY\" G\" 􀀗')$ A]bbYUdc`]g AB ))(%) IG5 \nA]bbYUdc`]g 9ifcdY \n􀀜*%&􀀝 *$)!**&)$&$ +--' ,'*( \nkkk\"^UaZgcZhkUfY\"Wca ]bZc4^UaZgcZhkUfY\"Wca \nThe Casper Suite and Security \nBlacklisting \nControl Objective: \n• Ensure that no illegal or unauthorized software can be run on corporate assets by blacklisting applications. \nEnsuring that software that puts an institution at risk regarding their End User License Agreements (EULA), Volume Licensing Agreements (VLA), and Peer to Peer file sharing applications is controlled requires the identification and removal of software that is out of scope, and notification about these activities to end user and management. In the case of blacklisting (see fig. 4), the Casper Suite offers the following: \n• Detection of software by the process that loads into Random Access Memory (RAM), which is a Detective Control. \n• Quitting and removing the offending Application, which is a Preventative Control. \n• Notification to end user and system administrators allows for a Procedure that enforces the Control. \nfig. 4 \nCasper VNC Security \nControl Objective: \n• Allow remote administrators to observe or control a computer in a way that is secure and audited. \nCasper VNC tunnels connections through SSL, which is an Access Control o","cbCaifdnax9EHDXz","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaifdnax9EHDXz","pdf",607359,"English","# Terms used in this document\n## Automated controls\n## Access controls\n## Control Objectives\n## Corrective Controls\n## Detective Controls\n## Preventative Controls\n# Role Based Administrator Access\n## Control Objective\n## LDAP user provisioning\n# Blacklisting\n## Control Objective\n# Casper VNC Security\n## Control Objective\n# Admin Password Change\n## Control Objective\n# Screen Saver Activation\n## Control Objective","[{\"question\":\"What security controls does the Casper Suite help organizations enforce?\",\"answer\":\"It provides tools to enforce numerous security controls and ensure security policies are followed and enforced consistently.
