Players roll four dice, record results, and choose which dice to reroll over multiple decision steps to maximize points. The scoring system awards different decimal-based point values for four-of-a-kind, sets of three or two, and consecutive sequences, including a decimal practice focus with totals up to 20. You get more points for getting matching rolls or consecutive numbers. You have to make decisions about which dice you want to re-roll. The point system is all scored using decimal numbers so it is a fun way to practice adding decimals up. \nAge Range: 4th grade+ \nNumber of players: 1-4 \nLearning: Add decimal numbers with one decimal place to 20, probability You will need \n- 4 dice \n- Some pieces of paper \nInstructions \n- Each player needs to keep a record of their score. \n- Player 1 throws the 4 dice. \n- Player 1 then decides to throw all 4 dice again, to throw 3 of the dice again, to throw two again, or just one dice again. \n- Player 1 then again decides which of the 4 dice to throw again. \n- Player 1 then adds up their score – see below. \n- Player 2, and all the other players do exactly the same. \n| DICE ROLL | SCORE |\n| --- | --- |\n| All 4 dice the same | 4 points |\n| Three dice the same | 2.5 points + 0.1 x other dice roll |\n| Two dice the same | 1.5 points + 0.1 x other dice total Score 3 points if two ‘pairs’. |\n| 4 Consecutive numbers | 3 points |\n| 3 Consecutive numbers | 2 points + 0.1 x other dice roll |\n| Otherwise | 0.1 x total on the dice |\n\n- Once the round is finished, Player 2 starts the next round and rolls the dice first. \n- The winner is the first player to reach 20 points. \nExample Scoring \nExample 1: Captain rolls a 2, 2, a 4 and a 5 on their turn. He decides to roll the 5 and 4 again. This time he gets a 3 and a 2. He decides to roll the 3 again and gets a 6. His final roll is 2,2,2,6 . Score 2.5 points (three of a kind) + 0.6 points (for the 6) = 3.1 points. \nExample 2: Newton rolls a 1, 3, 5 and 6. He decides to roll the 1 and 3 again and roll a 4 and a 5. Then he rolls the 4 again and get a 1. His final roll is 1, 5, 5, and 6. His final score is 1.5 points (two of a kind) + 0.1 points (for the 1) + 0.6 points (for the 6) = 2.2 points. \nExample 3: Sally rolls a 1, 2, 3 and a 5. She decides to roll the 5 again, and rolls a 6. Then she decides to roll the 6 again and rolls a 4. Final roll 1, 2, 3, 4. Her final score is 3 points for getting 4 consecutive numbers. \nVariations \n- Change the winning score – make it higher or lower. \n- If you are playing the game on your own, see if you can reach 20 points in 6 turns (or try and beat your own record for the fewest number of turns to reach 20 points) . \n- Allow every player to roll the dice and have only one chance to change them instead of two. \n- Try playing with 8 or 10 sided dice brings in different math facts to use, and also makes it harder to get some of the scoring combinations. \n- Play the game in a round. Award one point for the highest score in the round. The first player to reach 6 points is the winner.","cbCaijyuQilkc3fG","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijyuQilkc3fG","pdf",184791,"English","# Game Overview\n## Age Range and Players\n## Learning Goals\n# Setup and Instructions\n## Dice and Score Recording\n## Reroll Decision Process\n# Scoring Table\n# Winning Condition\n# Examples of Scoring\n# Variations","[{\"question\":\"How do players decide which dice to reroll in The Captain’s Cool game?\",\"answer\":\"After the initial roll, the current player chooses to reroll all four dice, or only three, two, or one, then repeats the decision to select specific dice to reroll again.\"},{\"question\":\"What determines the score for a round?\",\"answer\":\"Scoring depends on the pattern of the four dice: matching sets and consecutive numbers receive specific decimal point values, while other outcomes score 0.1 times the total of the dice.\"},{\"question\":\"How does a player win the game?\",\"answer\":\"The winner is the first player to reach 20 points.
