Poi's solitary existence is marked by the daily visits of schoolchildren who watch her swim. Her life takes a turn on Christmas day when the head teacher introduces a turtle named Toi as a companion. Initially, Poi is apprehensive, mistaking the turtle for another fish and reacting with fear and unhappiness due to their apparent differences. However, as days pass, Poi and Toi develop a bond, learning to coexist and support each other. Toi leaves food for Poi, and Poi guides Toi to safe shelters. Through this interaction, Poi realizes the value of their differences, understanding that these unique qualities make them special and that she has finally found a true friend. The story is an adaptation, edited for the NDoE and illustrated by Ifnarta, with an eBook layout provided by SIL-PNG Education for Life. Poi was so happy when the children gathered around her pond. |\n\n3  \n\n|  |\n| --- |\n| One Christmas day the head teacher of the school brought a small turtle to the fish pond.
