Despite preparing a protection talisman, salt-water rituals, and an avoid-curse plan, a dating event set up by Gabe Bautista leads to her arrest through a carnival social-media stunt. Police officer Martel questions Meera while her mother is abroad on her honeymoon, intensifying Meera’s fear for her future, including school admissions and the life she planned.","[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nToAnissa Jane, theperson who inspires me to write teens who are as brilliant, strong, and hilarious as she is \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nCHAPTER ONE \nThe Predictable End to Meera the Good Girl \nNo one, no matter how hard they work at it, or how much they want to, can ever—and I mean ever—escape their fate. And, apparently, my fate is to be cursed for eternity. \nMy eyes blur as I sit alone in the back of a police cruiser, watching a cop put literal handcuffs onto the wrists of my date, Gabe. Not even an hour after my Йrst kiss with him—my Йrst kiss ever. \nMy grandmother—Nani—has been warning me my whole life about the curse placed on our family four generations ago by a witch doctor in India. Should a girl in Nani’s bloodline choose to romantically involve herself with a boy before her seventeenth birthday, the girl becomes destined for trouble that will haunt her for her entire life. \nMom and Nani gave me a list of rules to follow so the curse wouldn’t ruin me: put my education Йrst, never lie to my family, associate only with people with the same values as me (i.e., high achievers), and most important, don’t date at all until my seventeenth birthday. If I followed the rules, I would be unharmed by the curse and would be the Йrst girl in my family to go to university. I would be the Йrst to be able to live the life that I wanted to live. Of course, I followed the rules with precision—my life goals are way too important for me to risk ruining them. \nSo, on my seventeenth birthday, when Gabe Bautista, the smartest guy in my grade, asked if I wanted to go for a walk on the weekend, I said yes. I was seventeen—it would be Йne. I was tired of being the only one of my friends who’d never been on a date, and I wanted a little escape from worrying about year-end school projects and Mom’s wedding. But to be extra careful I did a ton of research and made an epic avoid-curse spreadsheet, listing methods from around the world of how to stay safe from curses. I zeroed in on methods that \nare used in South Asian cultures, since this curse started in India, and on the ones that are most practical. (Like, I didn’t think it was a great idea to kill a descendant of the man who cursed my family.) Before my date I ordered a protection talisman online—a black tourmaline bead necklace with an evil-eye amulet on it—then took a bath in salt water and burned a candle while repeating some mantras. \nI did everything right. \nBut on my date, with only one kiss under my belt, I was arrested because of some stupid social media stunt Gabe pulled at a carnival. It turns out that costume jewelry, salt water baths, and waiting until my seventeenth birthday were useless. There was nothing I could have done to escape my fate. This curse has ruined the life of every woman and girl in my family for four generations… Why would it spare me? All the work I did to escape it failed. I wipe the tear on my cheek with the back of my hand. \nA back seat door opens, making me Мinch, and a woman slides into the car next to me.“I’m OГcer Martel,” she says. She’s not in a uniform but in black dress pants and a dark blue collared shirt. She eyes me suspiciously.“How are you doing, kid?” \nI’m upset, embarrassed, and angry at Gabe. Mostly I’m furious at the curse. But I don’t say that. I shrug. \n“Okay, so your full name is…” \n“Meera Parveen Noorani,” I say quietly. I already gave someone my driver’s license (okay, Йne, it’s a learner’s permit), so she should know this. \nThe woman nods.“Your mother’s name is Neelam Noorani, correct? She’snot answering her phone.” \nOf course she’s not. “She’s in Italy… on her honeymoon. She’s technically Neelam LeClair now.” I bite my lip.“She’s supposed to be back today.” \nThe woman’s eyes narrow like she doesn’t believe me. To be honest, I can’t believe my mother got married either, but that’s beside the point right now.“Where are you staying while she’s gone?” the oГcer asks.“Can we call ","cbCaidQL5niEgk4y","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidQL5niEgk4y","pdf",3277111,9,260,"English","en",105,"# Chapter One\n## The Predictable End to Meera the Good Girl","[{\"question\":\"What is the family curse Meera tries to avoid?\",\"answer\":\"A witch doctor’s curse claims that if a girl in Meera’s bloodline dates romantically before her seventeenth birthday, trouble will haunt her for life.\"},{\"question\":\"Why does Meera still get arrested even after following her rules?\",\"answer\":\"Gabe pulls a social-media stunt at a carnival, and the outcome leads to Meera’s arrest after just one kiss.\"},{\"question\":\"Who helps when Meera is taken to the police station?\",\"answer\":\"Officer Martel questions Meera and says her mother will pick her up soon, but her mother is initially unreachable because she is on her honeymoon.\"}]","The Bad Boyfriend Curse - Chapter One - The Predictable End to Meera the Good Girl | PDF",1786106947,400,{"code":4,"msg":31,"data":32},"ok",{"site_id":24,"language":23,"slug":33,"title":13,"keywords":34,"description":14,"schema_data":35,"social_meta":87,"head_meta":89,"extra_data":91,"updated_unix":28},"the-bad-boyfriend-curse-chapter-one-the-predictable-end-to-meera-the-good-girl","",{"@graph":36,"@context":86},[37,54,69],{"@type":38,"itemListElement":39},"BreadcrumbList",[40,44,48,51],{"item":41,"name":42,"@type":43,"position":11},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":45,"name":46,"@type":43,"position":47},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":49,"name":12,"@type":43,"position":50},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/story-novel/",3,{"item":52,"name":13,"@type":43,"position":53},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/the-bad-boyfriend-curse-chapter-one-the-predictable-end-to-meera-the-good-girl/129640/",4,{"url":52,"name":13,"@type":55,"author":56,"headline":13,"publisher":58,"fileFormat":61,"inLanguage":23,"description":14,"dateModified":62,"datePublished":63,"encodingFormat":61,"isAccessibleForFree":64,"interactionStatistic":65},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":57},"Person",{"url":41,"name":59,"@type":60},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-08-29","2026-08-07",true,{"@type":66,"interactionType":67,"userInteractionCount":20},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":68},"ViewAction",{"@type":70,"mainEntity":71},"FAQPage",[72,78,82],{"name":73,"@type":74,"acceptedAnswer":75},"What is the family curse Meera tries to avoid?","Question",{"text":76,"@type":77},"A witch doctor’s curse claims that if a girl in Meera’s bloodline dates romantically before her seventeenth birthday, trouble will haunt her for life.","Answer",{"name":79,"@type":74,"acceptedAnswer":80},"Why does Meera still get arrested even after following her rules?",{"text":81,"@type":77},"Gabe pulls a social-media stunt at a carnival, and the outcome leads to Meera’s arrest after just one kiss.",{"name":83,"@type":74,"acceptedAnswer":84},"Who helps when Meera is taken to the police station?",{"text":85,"@type":77},"Officer Martel questions Meera and says her mother will pick her up soon, but her mother is initially unreachable because she is on her honeymoon.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":52,"og:type":88,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":59,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":90,"canonical":52},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":24},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":93},[94,97,101,105,110,115,120,125,129,132,136],{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":95,"slug":96},90,"story-novel",{"id":47,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":98,"show_sort_weight":99,"slug":100},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":53,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":102,"show_sort_weight":103,"slug":104},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":106,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":107,"show_sort_weight":108,"slug":109},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":111,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":112,"show_sort_weight":113,"slug":114},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":116,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":117,"show_sort_weight":118,"slug":119},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":121,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":122,"show_sort_weight":123,"slug":124},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":20,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":126,"show_sort_weight":127,"slug":128},"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":127,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":130,"show_sort_weight":127,"slug":131},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":133,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":134,"show_sort_weight":133,"slug":135},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":137,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":138,"show_sort_weight":106,"slug":139},19,"General","general"]
