Lord—many centuries before—the prophetIsaias foretold of Christ as a great light and expressed his proph-ecy thus:\"The people that walked in darkness have seen agreat light:to them that dwelt in the region of the shadow ofdeath,light is risen.\"(9:2)Soon before Christ came to earth asa man,Zachary,the father of St.John the Baptist,too,foretoldof Christ as being a light:”...the Orient from on high hathvisited us:to enlighten them that sit in darkness and in theshadow of death:to direct our feet into the way of peace.\"(Luke  \n1:78,79.)Our Lord Himself spoke of Himself as the light:\"I am the light of theworld.He that followeth Me walketh not in darkness,but shall have the light of life.\"(John 8:12.)  \nSince then more than one authoritative statement addresses Christ thus.In theNicene Crede,we chant that the Son of God proceeds from the Father as a splendidray from light:\"Lumen de Lumine\"(Light of light).During the Pontifical DivineLiturgy of the Byzantine rite the celebrant bishop blesses the congregation saying:\"O Christ,the true light,enlightening and sanctifying every man entering the world.May the light of Thy face shine upon us,that walking in it we may be given tosee the light of Thy incomprehensible glory.\"As natural light makes it possible forus to see physically,so does Christ as the light bring to us the recognition of truth.It is for this that in the Divine Liturgy of St.John Chrysostom we pray,\"Tllumineour hearts,O God Who lovest mankind,with Thy pure light of Thy divine knowledge.\"  \nAnd this light brought to us many hundreds of years ago continues to shineupon the world,providing illuminating inspiration through Christ's Church,whichHe enlightens and guides,so that the Church,in turn,may teach and direct hermembers.Only those who look for true guidance in His Church can see His light asdid the Shepherds,the Wise Men,the Apostles and Saints.  \nBut with a false pride and with darkened sensibilities,we find in our timesthat the regime of godless communism aims at the complete obstruction of the divinelight,and does this by pushing forth its red star.In fulfilling this purpose,the com-munist hammer destrdys all Catholic churches and institutions.For this purpose,the bloody sickle liquidates millions of people who choose to remain steadfast intheir following of the supernatural light—the teaching of Our Lord Jesus
